I see a few threads on here where catching is "overrated" or not as important as speed / agility as you have to be open to get the ball and therefore catching in the 40's is too high. I can see the logic, but here's my question.

We have a WR who played last year as a level 13-15 or so, averaged 4 catches per game and had 8 drops. We got the speed into the 50's with catching in the high 20's / low 30's. Now, this season, he is playing at level 17-19 (just leveled), is averaging the same 4 catches per game, but has 8 drops in 8 games.

This year, agility has increased to 40's, catching to low 40s and daily trained STR from 10 to 15. Vision is 20.

Any thoughts on why his drop rate doubled? vision too far out of whack vs. other skills?

dare i say it?...yes, you need some vision

confidence could be a problem as well...esp if its below 20. 25-30 is a good area for confidence at your level though.

It has to do with Strength as well. If you're not as strong as the CB guarding you, then odds are you will end up without the ball. Along with that, how high is his Sticky Hands Special Skill?

I have 35 Catching, 3 in Sticky Hands and 15 Strength, and I've dropped the ball 4 times. (All 4 of them coming in the last 3 games. And to be honest, my Vision is lower than it should be.) Vision is also an issue for him. At level 18-19 you should probably have around 30-40 Vision as well. I say Vision > Catching to be honest.

If you aren't aware enough to see the ball, good luck catching it.

I'd say add some SP to Strength, Sticky Hands and definitely add to Vision. That should solve the problem.

well, our WR has 16 in STR, 43 in catching, 2 in sticky so he is at least on par with your guy. but as far as vision goes, he is nowhere near his catching figure. thanks for your thoughts.

Seems like a decent build. I'd just say toss his next level or two into vision, then he should be good to go.

Assuming were right**

(I reserve the right to deny the fact that I was giving advice, so that it cannot be used against me in the debate with Rob )

heh...me too mate. But the game is on. First one to 1,000 yards gives his build over to the other.

:0

Edit: I don't get it?! Why is there no smiley for the ":0" standard setup? What were they thinking..

Hah...you never know
Nah it doesn't really matter. You can see my build if you want. I think, the only reason I do somewhat well is because if my QB. He throws his share of interceptions, but he tosses quite a few touchdowns as well.

dunno why, but since training strength my WR seems to do a lot beter.

Its funny because this is a "Copy Cat" game. Everyone has seen builds similar to flames54's guy and now just wants to pump speed and ignore catching.

Increased catching will give your player a larger "catching zone". Balls that may have gone past him or looked like a poor pass from a QB can be caught with good hands. The higher your catching, the larger your "catching zone" is.
