Oceania Pro League - Week 6 Write-Up

Middle of the Road Game of the Week

Marblehead Longhorns @ OffTopica Miracle

Both of these teams have underachieved and they have been very up and down. Both have lost to quality teams and this week they match up pretty well. There's still a chance that one of them could make the playoffs but in reality, it's not likely the loser of this game will.

Slugfest Game of the Week

Komodo Dragon @ The GlobeDotters: GoatLocker's Thugs

Komodo has been extremely dominant this season with just 1 loss to Amsterdam, currently the 3rd of 3 undefeated teams in Zeta. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the Thugs are not as impressive as their record would make them appear. All of the teams they have beat, in relatively close games, could be referred to as mid-grade teams. So, I guess what I'm saying is, are the Thugs a legit contender or are they just faking their persona? Time for both of these teams (Komodo being the biggest underacheiver in Zeta last season possibly) to put up or shut up.

Underdog Game of the Week

Purple Drank @ SWAT City Vigilantes

Without having to say it out loud I think we can all agree that PD is the underdog here. SCV has just one loss against quality teams and PD has 3 wins over middle of the road teams this season. PD may not be ready for the top tier talent in OPL this season, we're likely to know the answer to that question at the end of this game. Swat city can either help themselves or hurt themselves in this game in terms of seeding for the playoffs.

Upset Watch of the Week

Mayan Flood @ South Bend Rhinos

South Bend has struggled offensively, after a few roster moves they've improved their situation but deprived themselves of some much needed chemistry. Mayan has had an up and down season, they have played one meaningful game that resulted in a win, the other meaningful games have resulted in losses, beyond that, they've beat teams that everyone more than likely will. So the real question in this game is, will South Bend's chemistry hold them back from a win or will they be able to overcome it? Will Mayan be able to prove they are better than they've performed or are they just not ready for real competition this season?

Oceania Pro Alpha Conference Tostito-Goal Game of the Week

Axis: Pinoy Allstars 2 @ The GlobeDotters: Indianapolis Gurupies

Expect nothing less than a lights out game. This game, might be the biggest one that gets played all season (regular season) in Alpha, as this is for the #1 spot in Alpha! Axis and Indy have steamrolled everything that has attempted to get in their way, but now, they match up against an equal! Half of the undefeated teams in Alpha will be playing in this game, so it's possible another game featuring two undefeated teams will make it into the GOTW later this season but expect a very close, very brutal game this week between Axis & Indy.

Oceania Pro Zeta Conference PowerZone Game of the Week

Gold Coast Vipers @ Deadwood Mules

5-0 & 5-0! Two of the Three undefeated teams in Zeta are butting heads this week! The number 7. Do you know what that represents? No? Let me me inform you, that represents the amount of points that any one opponent has managed to score on GCV this season. 6, do you know what that represents? C'mon people, are you really that slow? That represents the number of points any one opponent has scored on Deadwood. 1. Can you guess what that represents? ....Do I really have to spell EVERYTHING out for you? That represents the number of losses ONE of these teams is going to have after this game. One of these teams will be 5-1, one will be 6-0!

This Jack fellow seems to think far too highly of little ol' Marblehead.

Thanks Jack!

GCV is looking forward to a good ole fashion slug-fest with Deadwood. It may come down to turnovers...

Turnovers were definitely the difference. It was one of those "we won everywhere except the scoreboard" games, but unfortunately the scoreboard matters most.

Good luck going forward.

I thought the difference was the seven levels you had on us along with the L72 EQ but turnovers certainly sounds more random.

GL in the playoffs.

I'm sure the 7 levels and level 72 EQ is a big reason why we ran all over you (224 yards). It is also the reason we held your high powered running game to -14 yards rushing. We dominated time of possesson and almost TRIPLED your total yardage output.

Turnovers are a BIG part of the game, and kudos to your squad for forcing them. But you can't honestly tell me you were ever in the driving seat for this football game and I'd love to play "Tha Drink" again come playoff time.

Sorry I have not done this for the last several weeks of play. I have been working TONS of overtime at work and preparing for a baby in November so I've had to remodel our attic (we need a place to sleep too lol) and we're working on finishing up the nursery so things have been hectic. If I don't get to it before then, I will at least try to get some Playoff write-ups up.
