Oceania Pro League - Week 3 Write-Up
Balanced Game of the Week
Alpha - OffTopica Miracle @ Purple Drank
OTM has been playing great dotball and they have had a couple of very close wins. Purple Drank played what I referred to as possibly one of the best teams in Zeta in preseason and lost, and they had a solid, close win in week 2. I do think they're better than the season opener made them look. I think both of these teams will match up well on both sides of the ball and I expect a 4th Qtr decision in this one, possibly with a FG deciding the outcome.
Zeta - Oberon Bulls @ Razorback Nation
RBN's only loss was to a VERY good team and it was still a close game, can't say anything negative about that. They absolutely tore up the Hogsnakes via the Passing game, but the lack of a rushing attack could hold them back from a win against Oberon. Although their tackle happy Defense might disagree with me. I don't truly know what to think about Oberon, I want to say they're a good team and honestly, I think they are. But they beat Kona which is one of those teams that is going nowhere fast and they lost to Stuttgart, who I believe is a solid team but also currently a 'middle of the road' alpha team. So this game is going to tell us a lot about what types of teams these guys really are.
Upset Watch Game of the Week
Alpha - Amsterdam Bulls @ Mayan Flood
Mayan is coming off a big loss to the Mules after a week 1 blowout game. They need to take advantage here and prove that they're not just another somebody at the bottom of the ranks in Zeta. In week 2 the only cylinders Mayan was firing on were the ones that were flooded with sludge. Amsterdam lit up the opposition through the air in week 2 but their rushing attack was a bit mediocre. So perhaps this is an area that Mayan can take advantage of.
Zeta - Brantford Promnight Dumpster Babies @ Marblehead Longhorns
Brantford has a solid win over South Bend and a loss to the Power House that is Indy. Brantford could end up being the same team they were last season, losing all the really competitive games. They had almost no offense last week and they were plagued with missed tackles on defense. Marblehead has an impressive win over Voodoo in week 1 and a 'cupcake game' in week 2. So this, really shouldn't be a teset for them, in reality, they should wipe the floor with Brantford, unless Brantford isn't who we think they are.
Middle of the Road game of the Week
Alpha - Stuttgart Blitzkrieg @ Sydney Sharks
I genuinely think that both of these teams could be playoff quality but this is the time when one of them has got to rise above the rest of the competition and break out of the shell that is hindering both of their offenses. It seems to be that a LOT of teams playing this week are struggling offensively. Both of these teams better figure out something fast because the elevator is going up for one and down for the other.
Zeta - South Bend Rhinos @ The GlobeDotters: GoatLocker's Thugs
Goatlocker has definitely had an up and down season, they had a very hard fought close loss in week 1 and a blowout victory in week 2. Against OffTopica, their passing game was lights out but their rushing attack was at best, disappointing and turnovers killed them. South Bend has A LOT to prove. Their offense has been nothing more than a sorry excuse for a Pop Warner Cheerleading squad. That's gonna have to change if they stand a chance against the Rush Crushing Defensive Line that Goatlocker brings to the table.
Honorable Mention Game of the Week
All Good Things @ Easter Island Moai
AGT has had a decent season so far picking up wins against teams that clearly aren't going to compete this season. EIM, needs to improve, they've lost two in a row to high end talent. This week, they'll pick up their first win. Ray Guy, is going to get a lot of legwork this week as he'll spend most of the time on the field punting to EIM and giving them yet another opportunity to score touchdowns.
Oceania Pro Alpha Conference Tostito-Goal Game of the Week
SWAT City Vigilantes @ Banzai Pipeline 'Nites
SCV has been leaving up to the S23 Hype that I gave them. Banzai has had a great season thus far too, both of these teams are playoff quality imo, it's just a matter of where they'll be seeded and every game matters. Both offensively and Defensively these two teams have playing to full capacity. Shooter Arnson & Leif Thorsen go head to head for what could end up being the best game of the week, not just the best Alpha game.
Oceania Pro Zeta Conference PowerZone Game of the Week
Carribean Voodoo @ Komodo Dragon
I truly do believe both of these teams are two of the best in Zeta. Both of these teams need to improve upon their offensive production and their defensive stoutness however. But I definitely believe, with both teams being 1-1, there is reason to believe they are going to wreck some turf and play one hell of a smash mouth football game. Both of these teams lost to very good teams, so there's no shame in their schedule so far, but now, it's time to take control of their own destiny.
