Oceania Pro League Conference Championship Write-Up

Oceania Pro Alpha Conference Tostito-Goal Game of the Week

Buda Pest @ The GlobeDotters: Indianapolis Gurupies

The last time these two teams faced each other, it was a lightouts, unpredictable, down to the wire, smash mouth, all-out brawl! I see NO reason this time around is going to be any different. Last year about this time Buda couldn't hang on to win it all when they dropped a game to the Devonport Devils and Indy, last season, just couldn't get it done at all. Both of these teams are 1 game away from the championship this season and both very capable of winning it all. Heck, in Season 21, Indy DID win it all! In S29, Buda failed to win the OPro championship, but hey, at least they made it there. So the real question is, will this game end the way it did last time or will roles be reversed? Buda really needs to avoid getting sacked like they did the last time, which might be the glaring stat that killed them last time. Last time BP led in T.O.P, both teams had turnovers, both teams had rushing TD's, one team had a Passing TD, Indy did better by a bit on the ground overall, and had more yards per carry on the ground. So I think its safe to say, protect the QB and get the running game going and Buda can win!

Well, what would a write-up be without a predicition? As much as I WANT to believe Buda is going to win this game, my gut tells me to go with Indy by 3 in the fourth qtr. with just minutes left.

Oceania Pro Zeta Conference PowerZone Game of the Week

Gold Coast Vipers @ Sumatra Seahawks

GCV has not won the OPro title since Season 15, Sumatra on the other hand...has NEVER won the OPro championship. In S21, they won the Zeta conference but that simply means they lost the Championship to Indy. Statistically GCV and Sumatra were extremely well matched last time around, there truly isn't any area where either of them had the advantage...well except for the TD vs FG ratio. GCV needs to STOP settling for FG's and get it into the endzone, the problem is that Sumatra is rolling with a stout defense. There is no reason really that GCV can not reverse the outcome of last time these two met but they've gotta score Touchdowns.

Bold Prediction? Sumatra wins the Conference championship by 10 points...I have a bad feeling the FG's will keep coming for GCV.

As much as I love OPL, it is sad that everyone saw these two matchups in the preseason.

The entire season for all 4 teams comes down to one game. Bort needs to fix the game at the Pro level, or the game will not succeed.

Again, to disrespect to any team in OPL, since there are great team owners/GMs in this league, but this final four matchup was easily predictable 40 days ago.

GL to all teams

I don't recall too many people picking GCV to make it this far. Could be wrong.

I know Jack liked Seahawks/Bulls. Snakes did mention us.

Were I hear doing write-ups, I would have picked you guys. I agree with nthomas. This final four is exactly what I expected.

I do recall picking the Bulls, at first glance, with no intended disrespect to GCV, I thought the Bulls were a better team. GCV blew that idea up in my face. Good for y'all glad you had a great season I hope it continues and you prove me wrong twice this season.

Although, I DO agree with nthomas. I hate that everyone could pick the playoff teams that would shine through 40 days ago with few exceptions or variations. I know everyone here tries, recruiting is part of the problem, it's a difficult task when there's so many teams competing for the same players. Part of the problem is how predictable and screwed up the game is at higher levels.

I still think the lower levels need to be restricted even further on age so that all the level 70 players aren't stockpiled at lower levels. Imo, if that were to happen, then perhaps you'd have competitive teams that had time to 'brew' coming up from lower leagues instead of teams who just had to dump all their retirees.

Two more seasons of extended plateau will make Pro level recruiting that much easier. This is the wrong time to give up if you are a mid-level pro team who has trouble recruiting. There will be a ton of talent available to those teams if they work it this off-season.

With the new points available and extra boosts it will actually give some of the weaker builds a chance to fix themselves and catch up a bit vs. the best dots. Now the 8th seeds will only lose by 40-50 instead of 100.
The biggest challenge will be keeping up with the new archetype builds showing up the next two seasons. My own level 60 dots are already better then the plateaued builds on the Chargers, the only difference is VA's. The next wave will be here next season with level 65's and 1050-1100 effective rosters. Once they hit 76-79 they are going to be 1300+. Gonna be hard to recruit and win vs them for a mid-level independent squad.

I just mean there will be more dots available to recruit. Two extra seasons of plateau means dots that were going to retire this off-season are now available for two more seasons. The dots that were going to be recruited to replace them are now available to other teams. Just my opinion...

Actually, the more I think about it, the more false this comes out to be in my mind.

The weaker builds won't catch up because both players will be getting the same amount of sps.

The extreme builds will benefit, because they will finally be able to round out.

However, In my mind, this isn't going to do anything to make competition healthier. Which is a shame, because i haven't been this excited for an upcoming off season, ever.
