Figure I would start doing the top 8 for each league, than going back and doing the bottom half, that way analysis of the marquee teams and matchups could be posted quicker. Not meant to hate on the 9-16 teams in either league as my team is currently one of them, just makes it easier for me.
Western Conference Rankings Week 6
1) San Diego Marauders: 6-0
Last Game: 36-32 win over Anchorage
Pros: Well, Anchorage had been on top all season long, but San Diego had been making a strong case, and with the win over Anchorage there is no doubt who the number one team in the west is right now (unless youre from Reno). It was a great back and forth game with 23 points being scored in the 4th quarter. San Diego tested the much talked about Anchorage secondary and while QB Jake Obergfell did throw 2 INTs, he also threw for 321 yards with 3 TD passes. I think he’ll take 2 INTs to go along with those stats and a win any day. Tommy Browne had a huge receiving game, and for the defense you could pick almost anyone to single out and give credit to.
Cons: Congratulations San Diego, you just beat Anchorage and earned the number 1 spot. Enjoy it
Next Game: vs Rocky Mountain Rampage
2) Reno 911: 6-0
Last Game: 41-33 win over Oakyville
Pros: The offense has yet to be held to under 30 points all season. Rip VanWinkle continued his run of great success throwing 4 TD passes, two of them to WR Sterling Hicks. While he didn’t get many carries, HB Eddie Adams had a TD and averaged 4.5 YPC. While they were certainly favorites going into the game, this is a big win for them going into their matchup with Anchorage this week.
Cons: Oakyville has proven they are a very good team, nearly beating Anchorage and now putting up 33 points on Reno, but Reno’s defense is supposed to be better than this. They gave up a 54 yard TD pass and weren’t able to force any turnovers
Next Game: vs Anchorage Seawolves
3) Anchorage Seawolves: 5-1
Last Game: 32-36 loss to San Diego
Pros: Being ranked number 1 for the 1st five weeks brings a lot of pressure, and they were able to beat every team they should of. This game was a complete toss-up so they shouldn’t be too upset with losing, especially since it was such a close game. Their kicker was able to knock down 4 FGs, and on defense, though they were thrown on quite a bit, they made some plays. Josh Bailey and Champ Berry both showed why they are two of the top guys at their respective positions.
Cons: Its not like they played THAT bad of a game. Their offense played pretty well, if just one of those INTs AJ Clutch thrown was an incomplete pass, who knows what would have happened. They’ll need to regroup and put this one behind them as this upcoming game vs Reno won’t be any easier. They also need to figure out why HB Jon Jones can’t hold onto the ball.
Next Game: at Reno 911
4) Omaha Dogs: 5-1
Last Game: 38-0 win over Dakota
Pros: Omaha got off to a slow start on offense, but once they turned it on they completely dominated. Their QB tandem played great combining for 260 yards and 3 TDs. Cannon Ball had 16 carries for 117 yards, which resulted in a very impressive 7.1 yard per carry average. He also added a TD to go along with that. On the defensive side of the ball, Ipwn Rlvers had 4 hurries and CB Torch Johnson had 5 tackles, 7 pass deflections and an INT
Cons: Omaha has shown up fired up in every game since the opener and I can’t find anything bad to say about their performance against Dakota
Next Game: vs Ambridge Brigade
5) Chattanooga Quarantine: 5-1
Last Game: 43-0 win over Ambridge
Pros: 508 yards of offense for the Quarantine in this game sums it up. Its hard to believe they only ended up with 4 TDs. Kenny Palmer had a nice game going 32/43 for 258 yards and a TD. His favorite target on the day was Josh Roach who had 15 catches for 127 yards and a TD, though he did drop 2 passes. G Randall Dixon added 25 pancakes, bringing his 2 week total to a very impressive 44. The Quarantine may have been even more impressive on the defensive side of the ball, holding Ambridge to 90 yards of offense. CB Shutdown Wilson had 7 tackles to go along with his 5 pass deflections
Cons: They were forced to punt one time
Next Game: vs Corvallis Furburgers
6) Albuquerque Mustangs: 4-2
Last Game: 30-0 win over Hyborian
Pros: Albuquerque has been completely dominating their last 3 games. In this game they sacked Hyborian’s QB 6 times, while getting 7 hurries. They also got 3 INTs. Leading the way for the defense was DE ReverendFather UncleRuckus. He had 4 tackles, 1 for loss, 3 sacks, 5 hurries, and a fumble recovery. Also impressive was CB Stu Cats. He had 4 tackles, 4 pass deflections, and 2 INTs. Three offensive linemen had double digit pancakes, and HB Buster Pimps had 116 yards rushing on the day.
Cons: A completely dominating performance against a team that is in no way bad. This team has fixed whatever was wrong with them early in the season. I feel bad for the teams that haven’t already faced them
Next Game: vs Kalamazoo Wolverines
7) Rocky Mountain Rampage: 5-1
Last Game: 17-16 win over Houston
Pros: A close game for the Rampage but a win nonetheless. Houston’s last minute TD made this game look close than it was, but it still was by no means a blowout. Joe Starr and Frankie Fresh played good games for the offense, and on defense Tre Stylez helped out a lot. A good bounce back game from their 1st loss of the season last week.
Cons: It’s not that I think Rocky Mountain is a bad team. They just haven’t beaten anyone of substance yet to make me think their record is legit. Starting HB Scott Crusher had a bad game which hurt the offense a bit. Upcoming games against San Diego, Reno, Chattanooga, and Omaha will tell a lot more about where this team stands
Next Game: at San Diego Marauders
8) Corvallis Furburgers: 2-4
Last Game: 23-19 win over Trojan
Pros: While this team may not have the 8th best record in the west, and may not have looked great in beating Trojan, they’ve played as tough a schedule as anyone in BBB 14 and deserve to climb the rankings after a hard fought win, their 1st since week one. They are not nearly as bad as their record indicated, and you should see much better out of Derock Anderson and crew in the near future.
Cons: The next two weeks are just as brutal as the 4 before this game, with Corvallis facing Omaha and Chattanooga. After that I would not be surprised if they won out. The sad thing is though, 2-6 could put them in such a hole morale wise that it will be tough to bounce back, they might need to steal one of the next two.
Next Game: vs Omaha Dogs
Games to Watch in Week 7
#3 Anchorage Seawolves at #2 Reno 911
The 2nd big matchup in a row for Anchorage, and Reno’s chance to prove that they should be number 1. Anchorage is out to show that last weeks loss to San Diego was just a small mis-step and a win over Reno here would sway a lot of people. A win for Reno here would make their game against San Diego in week 9 the biggest game in the western conference this season. This one could be another instant classic
#7 Rocky Mountain Rampage at #1 San Diego Marauders
Rocky Mountain looks to prove that they deserve some respect, and beating San Diego would certainly earn them a ton. San Diego can not afford to still be celebrating the win over Anchorage and must take this game seriously as Rocky Mountain can surprise them. In my opinion it’s going to take a lot of bounces the Rampage’s way for them to come out on top but in this game you just never know.
