Some minor movement but not a whole lot changed this week as most games played out as expected. The CPU teams did remarkably well, which makes it alot harder to rank the bottom teams. However, I am not gonna spend alot of time on the bottom teams, so if I get them wrong, so be it.
Previous week's ranking in ( ).
Top Ten
#1 (1) - SoCal BDC (2-0) - What's up with top teams struggling with CPU teams? Dev's farm team is in WEPL, so I spend some time on that forum, and there is a CPU team there that beat someone today. Even though AGT is owned by one of the best defensive minds in the game, I am still shocked this game was even remotely close. Can't even blame VAs since they are CPUs. Regardless, SoCal is still the best until someone beats them. This week SoCal gets Asylum Maulers. I expect SoCal to be the ones doing the mauling. (Prediction - SoCal by a bunch)
#2 (2) - Devonport Devils (2-0) - Devonport had no trouble dispatching the puppies from Tampa Bay. The D had it going on as we had 5 take aways and held them to under 100 yards of O. Next on the schedule is a tough game against Kingston. The Devils will devour the Jamaicans in this one. (Prediction - Devonport by 21)
#3 (3) - Asau Pirates (1-1) - Asau stays at #3 after showing Komodo that while the Dragon might have a bright future, the present Zeta belongs to the Pirates. All you need to know about this game was the Rushing numbers. Asau gained 614.5 yards and averaged 11 yards per carry, while Komodo lost 13 yards and averaged -.7 yards per carry. This week is more of the same as Asau faces off against an old rival that is now a CPU team. The Pirates will plunder Syracuse. (Prediction - Asau by a boatload)
#4 (4) - Buda Pests (2-0) - Buda is trying to convince us that they are not good, but I ain't buying it for one minute. As my OC fast said in the previous thread, just check out their scrim results, and now they have a solid win over Kingston. Buda was very opportunistic on D and ST, forcing 5 turnovers and 99 yard KO TD. Add in holding Kingston to .6 ypc, and you can see why they are ranked in the top 5. Up next for Buda is Offtopica Miracle. Yello and his boys are off to a good start (which is fairly typical for them) but are benefiting from a soft opening schedule. Buda will swat OTM like gnats in this one. (Prediction - Buda by 49)
#5(5) - Banzai Pipeline 'Nites (2-0) - My predicted margin of victory on this one was within a TD, but I am still a little surprised by the way the game played out. Don't get me wrong. BPN held HPAS Jr, to 6 points and once they got things going, were never really in danger of losing. Still, the guys over on Holland are clamoring for more respect and with results like this, they just might get it. This week Banzai gets another newcomer looking to make their mark in OPL. I expect Banzai to bust a cap in the Vigilantes (Prediction - Banzai by 56)
#6 (7) - Hong Kong Voodoo (2-0) - Hong Kong moves up less because they won than because Kingston lost. Still Bora Bora has a solid human O and has beaten some decent teams in scrims, so that convincing of a win looks good for HKV. The one head scratcher for me is the tournament loss to Tampa Bay. I am still not sure if this is a top contender, or if they will drop quickly. This next game should help clear it up some as they face GCMM. I think Hong Kong will use some black magic on the Michelin Men and get the win. (Prediction - Hong Kong by 14)
#7 (8) - Amsterdam Bulls (1-1) - Similar to Hong Kong. Amsterdam moves up more from Kingston's loss than their win over a CPU team. They get a bit of a tougher opponent this week in San Diego. Nevertheless, Amsterdam runs over the Supa Chargers. (Prediction - Amsterdam by 49)
#8 (6) - Kingston Uprising (1-1) - Kingston lost in a fairly close game against Buda, which caused them to lose a couple of spots. In the grand scheme, that loss was expected and thus will not stop them from climbing higher later. There is no time for them to lick their wounds as they have to travel to Devonport. As predicted above, I expect them to go home with a 1-2 record. (Prediction - Devonport by 21)
#9 (9) - Gold Coast Vipers (2-0) - GCV really took it to Oberon this week. They put up 835 yards of Offense en route to dropping 125 on the Bulls. Oberon is struggling, but that is an impressive showing either way. GCV definitely is looking like a team that can challenge Asau for the Zeta crown. They get to prove it this week as they face Kona, a team that they were tied with in the preseason and that could be better than their current ranking. This is definitely the game of the week. I think the Vipers will send Kona home with pockets empty as they show that they deserve to be in the top 10. (Prediction - Gold Coast by 7)
#10 (10) - Gold Coast Michelin Men (2-0) - GCMM played their second straight game against a CPU team and this time they beat them like you would expect a good team to. I hope they have enjoyed the easy opening games because they have their first big challenge coming up this week. The tire guys travel to Hong Kong to face the Voodoo men. I think this will be a good game, with HKV getting the win. (Prediction - Hong Kong by 14)
The Rest
#11 (11) - Prague Panthers (2-0)
#12 (12) - Kona Gold (1-1)
