EDIT: Ooops, forgot to mention in the title that this is Eastern Conference only...sorry!
1) Chicago Mustangs
Coach: Tim Harper
Record: 6-0-0
Best wins: 20-6 vs. Washington Bullets, 18-0 @ Kansas Warriors
Next Game Prediction: 105-0 win over Beantown Gearheads
Notes: The Mustangs won it all in season 1 and won the East in season 2 only to get trounced by the Extreme in the championship game. Since they are the returning Eastern Conference champs and have yet to lose this season, they get the #1 spot. Though they have a weak schedule, it’s tough to penalize a team for things out of their control.
2) Kalamazoo Coyotes
Coach: Ronin
Record: 6-0-0
Best wins: 22-16 vs. Detroit Nasty, 30-9 vs. D.C. Warpath
Next Game Prediction: 60-3 win over Pensacola Blazers
Notes: The Pushovers could have just as easily fit in the #2 slot but like the Mustangs, they have yet to face an elite team while Kalamazoo has already handed one of the “Big 4” (Detroit) a loss and taken care of the D.C. Warpath and Dark Lotus Juggernauts without much trouble. I’m also biased because I play for them. But seriously, the Coyotes have run through most of their competition and are led by Ray Finkle and his golden leg.
3) Philadelphia Pushovers
Coach: Jed
Record: 6-0-0
Best Wins: 25-3 vs. Washington Bullets, 23-3 @ Kansas Warriors
Next Game Prediction: 28-6 win over Dark Lotus Juggernauts
Notes: This should really be 2b instead of 3rd place and I hate to penalize a team for an easy schedule (see notes for Chicago Mustangs) but 3rd ain’t bad considering the only two teams ranked higher are undefeated. Philly has beaten every team they’ve played by at least 20 and show no signs of slowing down. A true test of their team will be coming up as the Pushovers have to face DLJ, K-Zoo, DDL, and the Mustangs in the next 4 weeks.
4) Detroit Nasty
Coach: DeWittFootball
Record: 5-1-0
Best Wins: 22-6 vs. D.C. Warpath, 26-6 @ Washington Bullets
Next Game Prediction: 30-10 win over Kansas Warriors
Notes: Aside from dropping a close game against the Coyotes, Detroit has stayed true to their moniker and has been downright nasty. Though many have criticized them for boosting early, their upset win in last year’s playoffs against Kalamazoo may show that they have some tricks up their sleeve.
5) Detroit Demon Lions
Coach: The Strategy Expert
Record 6-0-0
Best Wins: 37-0 @ Washington Bullets, 26-16 vs. Kansas Warriors
Next Game Prediction: 24-21 win over Kentucky Wildcats
Notes: TSE and co. have set out to prove that the “Big 4” should be expanded to the “Big 5.” Their record certainly seems to support that idea but, like Philly and Chicago, they have yet to face any elite teams. The reason their rank is below the rest of the “Big 4” is because they haven’t ever faced off against truly elite competition (unfair, I know). Next up should be another win against Kentucky but then DDL gets to finally test themselves against the big boys when they have to play DLJ, Philly, K-Zoo, and then Chicago.
6) D.C. Warpath
Coach: Hogglife
Record: 4-2-0
Best Wins: 20-6 vs. Washington Bullets, 40-3 @ Kansas Warriors
Next Game Prediction: 60-0 win over Mozilla Firefox
Notes: Though they had a rough welcome to the Pros with losses against perennial E.C. powerhouses K-Zoo and Detroit, the Warpath have reeled off 4 straight wins and this (extremely biased) pigskin prognosticator predicts at LEAST another 4 more. With a coach who is banned from the forums 75% of the time, it’s amazing that this team is above .500. Some would claim DLJ deserves to be here but their loss to the Wildcats drops them down to 7.
7) Dark Lotus Juggernaut
Coach: Juggalokai
Record: 4-2-0
Best Wins: 26-20 vs. Kansas Warriors, 27-0 vs. Miami Bulldogs
Next Game Prediction: 28-6 loss to Philadelphia Pushovers
Notes: At the beginning of the season there were whispers of DLJ returning to glory this season. With a 4-2-0 record they seem playoff bound, but a questionable loss to Kentucky followed by a decisive thrashing at the hands of Kalamazoo have caused the whispers to die down. Can DLJ prove to be an elite team? Will they get out of the 1st round with a low playoff seed? Can they stay afloat while they face off with Philly, DDL, and Chicago in these next 3 weeks despite being on a 2 game skid? This team is surrounded by question marks and only time will answer them.
8) Kentucky Wildcats
Coach: justafish2002
Record: 3-3-0
Best Wins: 16-6 @ Dark Lotus Juggernauts, 25-10 vs. Mozilla Firefox
Next Game Prediction: 24-21 loss to Detroit Demon Lions
Notes: This team is also in an interesting situation. They lost by 1 to the Bulldogs but managed to beat DLJ by 10. Their other 2 wins come against the 2 teams in USA Pro East that have yet to tally a victory so that is less than impressive but they showed flashes of potential in their beating of DLJ. In this writer’s eyes, the Wildcats are the gatekeepers of the Eastern Conference’s “good” squads. Chump teams can’t beat them but elite teams don’t worry about them.
9) Washington Bullets
Coach: monkeyskin
Record: 1-5-0
Best Win: 30-17 vs. Savannah Skyhawks
Next Game Prediction: 21-6 win over Sacramento SaberCats
Notes: I know, I know, they only have 1 win. A quick look at their schedule shows that their losses have come at the hands of Philly, DDL, Chicago, DC, and Detroit. The Bullets have had one of the toughest schedules in GLB and it really shows. I expect wins against Sacramento and Pensacola before the Bullets have to face the only member of the “Big 4” that they have yet to play, the Coyotes.
10) Kansas Warriors
Coach: bigtisme
Record: 1-5-0
Best Win: 24-20 vs. Savanna Skyhawks
Next Game Prediction: 30-10 loss to Detroit Nasty
Notes: Before anyone comments, I am aware that I ranked 2 1-win teams over 2 2-win teams. Kansas, like Washington, seemed to have angered the scheduling gods somehow and has played some very good teams early in the season. Unfortunately for the Warriors, they have to face Julius Brown and the Nasty in their next game before their schedule gets easier.
11) Miami Bulldogs
Coach: rreeddss
Record: 2-4-0
Best Wins: 20-19 vs. Kentucky Wildcats, 65-3 @ Beantown Gearheads
Next Game Prediction: 21-15 win over Savannah Skyhawks
Notes: The Bulldogs busted out of the gates, went 2-0, and proceeded to tell the world about it. Since then, they’ve put up 0 points in their last 4 games and allowed 165 points. It’s also not a good sign when one of your top 2 wins is against the Gearheads. Still, this team has 2 wins including a shocking sneaker over the Wildcats by a single point. That’s good enough for #11 in my book.
12) Savannah Skyhawks
Coach: terps85
Record: 2-4-0
Best Wins: 31-17 vs. Pensacola Blazers, 24-10 @ Mozilla Firefox
Next Game Prediction: 21-15 loss to Miami Bulldogs
Notes: The only multi-win team left gets the nod for the #12 spot. Although their only wins come against teams with a combined 1-11 record, a win is still a win and no one can take that away from them! However, they have given 3 different teams (Sacramento, Washing, Kansas) their only wins of the season so it’s hard to take these guys seriously.
13) Pensacola Blazers
Coach: h00d420
Record: 1-5-0
Best Win: 14-10 vs. Sacramento SaberCats
Next Game Prediction: 60-3 loss to Kalamazoo Coyotes
Notes: Pensacola has played a pretty tough schedule so far but a double digit loss to the Skyhawks should be setting off alarms for the management. Perhaps h00d420 and the rest of the Blazers need to take it easy on the “herbal” relaxation methods and start playing some football if they wanna compete in GLB’s best league.
14) Sacramento SaberCats
Coach: ttime33
Record: 1-5-0
Best Win: 13-12 vs. Savannah Skyhawks
Next Game Prediction: 21-6 loss to Washington Bullets
Notes: Their highest level player is their punter and they’ve yet to win by more than a single point. Still, they are better than 2 other teams and will probably manage to avoid relegation when it’s all said and done. Good for them.
15) Mozilla Firefox
Coach: cwrujosh
Record: 0-6-0
Best Win: N/A
Next Game Prediction: 60-0 loss to D.C. Warpath
Notes: They’ve yet to come within 10 points of their opponents in any of their games. Relegation seems to be the destiny of this team. At least they’ll probably get a win over the Gearheads.
16) Boston Gearheads
Record: Boneclaw
Record: 0-6-0
Best Win: N/A
Next Game Prediction: 105-0 loss to Chicago Mustangs
Notes: Aren’t Boston teams supposed to be good at sports? The Patriots went 16-0…this New England squad will probably go 0-16. These guys need spygate cameras ASAP if they wanna steal a win this season. Anyways, relegation is pretty much guaranteed at this point.
