Texan’s WL Preseason Preview

NOTE: Obviously this is pre-boost (for those that have any) and there may be some stray recruits out there, so APV is subject to change.

There are probably some mistakes in here, so sue me.

Forums are pretty damn boring this time of year, so hopefully this spices things up.

ZETA

Top Tier

Last Season: 15-4 in WL, lost in third round to Odessa 41-38
Outlook: Most teams would be happy with last season’s performance but after tasting WL gold, ESL is itching for a return to the pinnacle. Look for them to be in the championship mix once again.

Last Season: 13-6 in WL, lost third round to Lincoln 38-36
Outlook: Alpine had a pretty good regular season and then stepped up a notch come playoff time. They were within a whisker of playing for the title. They are loaded once again and are one of the 4 or 5 teams in Zeta who are favored to compete for the crown.

Last Season: 11-6 in WL, lost first round to Lincoln 52-37
Outlook: Never count out the three time world champions. These guys plain know how to win, how to build a cohesive team and how to coach. They are once again one of the main threats to win it all.

Last Season: 13-5 in WL, lost second round to ESL 48-35
Outlook: The Radicals look strong again this season after a good run last time out. Can they get over the hump and high step into that WL title endzone? Maybe.

Playoff Threats

Last Season: 18-2 in SAPL, won 52-24 over Milwaukee in title game
Outlook: Everyone in the WL had a pretty loaded roster and these guys are on the high end of that. I have them coming in as the top new team in Zeta, but can they stand up to the game to game grind? I think they’re a playoff team.

Last Season: 20-0 in OPL, defeated Sumatra 41-34 in title game
Outlook: I probably have these guys rated too low tbh because of their history of WL success and their absolute domination in OPL last season. I will be very surprised if they don’t slot into the playoffs somewhere.

Last Season: 15-3 in WL, lost second round to Odessa 31-17
Outlook: Putting a very strong Canton team right here makes me realize how strong Zeta is this season as they would finish higher in Alpha, imo. You can never be sure of the playoffs in the WL but these guys will be fighting for one of those spots from 5 to 9 I think.

Last Season: 19-1 in SEA, lost title game to TKW 34-20
Outlook: Honestly I will be thrilled if we finish at 8 and maintain our spot since it’s our first visit to the big show. Boomy and October have put together a roster to let us succeed, so we’ll see if this ranking is more or less realistic.

Last Season: 20-0 in SEA, defeated Monks in title game 34-20
Outlook: Certainly TKW could finish higher than this and it depends somewhat on how much attention uf and crew give to TKW versus HHWC. No doubt they know what it takes to win in the WL.

Last Season: 18-2 in APL, lost to Carthage 29-21
Outlook: Somalia has done an impressive job of keeping dots and recruiting what they need to form a strong roster. Making the jump from APL to WL is big, but hey half of all the teams change every season, so that’s nothing new. Will be in the mix for a lower tier playoff spot.

Last Season: 7-9-1 in WL, lost first round to Canton 23-19
Outlook: I have Mayan down here at 11 but really they could finish anywhere from 7 to 11 I think. Their roster is pretty good and their coaching is obviously WL playoff tested.

Fighting To Survive

Last Season: 9-8 in WL, lost to Odessa 27-26 in first round
Outlook: Sophia has a lot of WL experience and they stuck through last season. It’s only lolapv but theirs isn’t fairly meh for a WL playoff team. Their coordinating could have them surprise again however.

Last Season: 19-1 in WEPL, defeated ECM in title game 35-34
Outlook: Paris has been around a long time and they finally took down WEPL. I kinda see them as a 4 to 7 win WL team, though. I am always open to being proven wrong...

Last Season: 7-8-1 in WL, missed playoffs
Outlook: EEA is another of those returning lower tier WL playoff teams, but lower tier WL playoff team is usually better than top tier Pro playoff team. They seem to do more with less every season and they’ll need to do it again this time around. Otega is a bad man imo.

Last Season: 20-0 in EEPL, defeated TSW in title game 59-17
Outlook: You gotta love TJC, the guy is proof that nice guys don’t have to finish last. I am doubting that Krakow will be able to hang in the WL playoff picture, but honestly I hope I’m wrong.

Last Season: 18-2 in CPL, defeated Omerta 19-10 in title game
Outlook: Ok, no offense, you’re not exactly Mr. Irrelevant here. I know Queensland has prior WL knowledge with their coordinators and ownership and you could always play up higher than your player strength appears.

Top Tier

Last Season: 16-2 in WL, lost second round to Lincoln 27-26
Outlook: Ok, at some point Tautology will win it all and this could be that time. The MPHD roster is just sick (as usual) and I expect that speedy defense to dominate in a lot of games. Will they be snakebit in the playoffs?

Last Season: 14-6 in WL, defeated Lincoln 37-31 in WL title game, defending World Champion
Outlook: Two straight title game appearances and one gold, Odessa is on a roll. I should probably bring them back in the top spot, but I have a feeling MPHD is due.

Last Season: 13-7 in WL, lost WL championship game to Odessa 37-31
Outlook: Lincoln had a pretty tumultuous regular season then came on strong for a big playoff run. I am expecting some of that momentum to carry into a home playoff game or two this season.

Last Season: 13-5 in WL, lost second round to Alpine 20-15
Outlook: Korb damn near made the conference title game last season after a very good regular season. They are back and strong again this time out and will threaten for a home game.

Playoff Threats

Last Season: 8-9 in WL, lost first round to Providence 31-24
Outlook: How ‘bout those Garudas? They finally made the WL playoffs after a long cycle of promotion and demotion and then gave Providence all they could handle. I think they make the playoffs again and this time by an easier margin.

Last Season: 19-1 in CPL, lost to Exiles 19-10 in title game
Outlook: The “other” drunken team in the WL this season looks like they’ll be fighting for one of those second tier playoff spots and finish somewhere in the 6 to 10 range in the standings. Will they rep CPL well?

Last Season: 19-1 in USA, defeated the Hounds 44-21
Outlook: Cincy dominated an always nasty USA league and finished off with gold. I think they’ll scrap for a lower tier playoff spot and could finish anywhere from 7 to 11 in the standings I think.

Outlook: The Hood has been hanging around a couple of seasons now although last time was by the skin of their teeth. I had kinda counted them out at one point tbh, but here they are. I think they’ll probably stick around again, and again by the skin of their teeth.

Outlook: Hey, 8-8 in WL means you are a damn good team and they’ll be in a similar position again this time out. I think it would be tougher for them in Zeta, but here they will be in the mix right up until week 16.

Last Season: 19-1 in USA, lost to Cincinnati in title game 44-21
Outlook: Like I said above, I think it’s a bit of a logjam from 7 to 11 and those teams could easily swap with each other all season right up until the end. We’ll see if there’s a chair left for Nashville when the music stops at the end of the regular season.

Outlook: I hope I’m wrong about MJ here because I’m a big fan of dimmy, October and SLZ. I put them here just based on current roster strength but they have a whole lot of WL wins and I would not be surprised to see them in the playoffs yet again.

Fighting To Survive

Outlook: Albarsch knows what he’ doing and even though the lolapv is good in the grand scheme of things he’ll have to do more with less on the WL level. The Juggs though are a veteran run squad and could surprise.

Seahawks too high

Rosarica made it to the WL riding on Cowbell's nutsack, and Blazz tossed him aside at the end of the season. Favre4Dawin knew that Cowbell would let that fuel his anger and signed him for one last glorious season. I predict a S21 SLAP championship rematch, and I predict the Juggs spinning the way to victory with Cowbell and taking it all.

HOOD

If Monks go straight back to Pro i will hit.

I do think you're giving effective level a bit too much weight. In the WL everybody has a badass roster and the best teams are really weighted more towards coordinating.

But we'll see. Happy to have some rankings up though.

Ya, el was not the only factor as some are shuffled around, but I obviously looked to that for some early clues.

Once we get into the regular season power polls, el is out the window and results are all that matters.

Dallas will be better than that. I don't think anyone on their roster last season started above 70.
