Texan’s Week 1 Picks
Usual disclaimer: this is my opinion only. If you don’t like it, I still love you.
In honor of kicking off a new season, this week’s theme is song’s about beginnings of various types.
Predicted Conference Results
Naga: 9
lolgaruda: 7
Although I still see Naga winning inter-conference week, it seems that this is an atypical season in that lolgaruda is much deeper top to bottom than Naga. Yet, Naga still has more elite or almost elite teams at the top.
Inter-Conference Week
Game of the Week
Palembang Drunken Monks (0-0) v Buffalo Rampage (0-0)
Two SEA stalwarts collide in a matchup of power poll teams. The Monks won the lolscrim in preseason, but that doesn’t mean a whole lot since neither team did anything for it. Now though it’s time to Start Me Up http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzlgJ-SfKYE for real and this is a good way to do it. Obviously I’m a bit biased, but I think the Monks have more horses here. Monks 35, Buffalo 24
Other Games
Semarang Red Bulls (CPU) v San Diego Lightning (0-0)
SDL is probably somewhat happy not to have to face previous year’s editions of Semarang, but getting a win against a squad of CPU players is not the most exciting way to pick up your first Pro win. Still, a win on New Year’s Day http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0IRY_eWuIw is always welcome. SDL 255, Semarang 0
Bandar Lampung Pigskin Pirates (0-0) v Phu Khao Bow Chicka Brown Cows (0-0)
Finally and after many seasons, legendary SEA squad BLPP makes it back to the best region in GLB. They could be greeted a bit rudely however by a Cows team that is very strong and a contender in lolgaruda. They may be a bit under-leveled at this point, but it’s time for BLPP to Begin the Begin http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQ3WxDM0vdU of their new SEA life. Cows 45, BLPP 24
Hong Kong Hustlers (CPU) v Three Kingdom Warriors (0-0)
It’s usually lolgaruda that starts the season with CPU teams but at least Naga’s are still human-owned. HKH’s fairly lengthy run in SEA will be over, at least for a while after this season. It’s going to be a Long Year http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxszD-WbK1s for them in the interim. TKW 255, HKH 0
Las Vegas Dirty Hookers (0-0) v Atlantic Great Whites (0-0)
Welcome to SEA, Las Vegas, it could be a bumpy ride. AGW has been here a while and would like to erase the memory of last season by starting with a W. It’s a Brand New Day http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILObfEzX92k for AGW and LVDH alike, but which one will actually enjoy it? AGW 38, LVDH 17
Tibetan Drunk Monks (0-0) v Island of Misfit Toys (0-0)
Two teams that barely clung to SEA life last season collide week 1 and one of them gets to start out the season tied for first place. In The New Year http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXQ-BNiR9vU all things are still possible and everyone is undefeated. TDM 45, IMT 10
Sainte Foy Cyclones (0-0) v Bourbontown BlueCats (0-0)
Another game between two teams who already played each other in the preseason. (Stop doing that bort!) In any case, SFC looks like the much better team at this point. It’s a New Morning http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_Fz3658yYM and one of these teams will wake up on the wrong side of the bed. SFC 48, BB 17
Royal Blue Smurfs of Funkalicious Labatt (0-0) v Krakow Kryptonite (0-0)
This should be a pretty good game imo. FG’s team will definitely at least be on the radar with a win here. MC likes to say This Will Be Our Year http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jf7wRe4AUtU but really I think that’s next season for the Smurfs. This game is an absolute tossup I think. Smurfs 27, KK 24
Singapore Slingers (0-0) v Tanzania Lumberjacks (0-0)
The FNGs out of Singapore face a veteran SEA squad from Tanzania and yet again two teams who played each other in the preseason, with disastrous results for Singapore. TL could be a fringe playoff team while it looks to me that SS will remain in SEA only because there are two CPU teams in Naga and after their success in minors, this will be Just Like Starting Over http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAJ2AoEwDvY for them. TL 72, SS 13
The Cult of Personalities (0-0) v NBA Jam Extreme (0-0)
This should be one of the absolute best games of the week as two monster APVs collide. CoP just came back from WL and NBA looks like they’ll be heading there probably next season. This probably comes down to whichever team does not Turn! Turn! Turn! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fg73MRomwSA the ball over as much. CoP 28, NBA 24
Portland Dirty Penguins (0-0) v Boston Bears (0-0)
We are treated to another nice matchup of probable playoff teams here. PDP has looked fantastic with their new talent infusion in the preseason and Boston has certainly looked solid. This is certain no game For Beginners http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3Jv7mRxyuA at all. It seems to be PDP is a bit stronger though. PDP 38, Boston 24
Wichita Black Magic (0-0) v Shanghai Tigers (0-0)
Guess what, yet another game between teams who met in the preseason, and it wasn’t pretty for WBM. This is also further illustration as to how the worm has turned where Naga is now fairly shallow and lolgaruda is very deep. It is a time of Beginnings http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEA7fQhJy84 and that bodes a lot better for Shanghai. Tigers 42, WBM 3
Golden Hill Bones (0-0) v Destin Leviathans (0-0)
GHB looks easily the best I’ve seen them and I wouldn’t be surprised if they tear some people up this season. They almost certainly will make the playoffs. Destin also has some quality players and coaches, but they’ll find the footing a lot more treacherous here this season than in the minors. In any case, they get the chance to Start Today http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibvas-K2Noo proving themselves. GHB 35, Destin 20
Benton Harbor Havoc (0-0) v Wu Dang Kung Fu Academy (0-0)
To me, BHH looks pretty strong this season and should contend for a playoff spot once again. Unfortunately for them it could be a rough start as they face one of lolgaruda’s elite in the form of KFA. Coming Home http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rSBgfXoIPo could help them out, but probably not enough. KFA 38, BHH 24
Woody Island Wolverines (0-0) v Halifax Harpoons (0-0)
In years past, this would have been a pretty good game, but it seems Halifax is now almost as much machine as man with many CPU players. Welcome To The Black Parade http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDWgsQhbaqU that could be Halifax’s season. WW 45, Halifax 10
Victoria Teabaggers (0-0) v Mandalay King Cobras (0-0)
MKC looks like they’ll be fighting for a playoff spot in a stacked lolgaruda conference, but they get the misfortune of rolling up VT for their first game. And VT is pure nastyness. They had a great season last time, but can they Do It Again http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfdb2XyGTHA ? This caps off an excellent slate of week 1 games. VT 45, MKC 10
