New Rankings with minimal movement. Check the rankings after 6/24 for some big moves as there are HUGE matchups this week.
Position - Team - Record - Synopsis - Move in rankings
1. N.H. Hounds (6-0) – Survived a tough scare from Pittsburgh, but made the plays needed to win the game. Top team will continue to stay on top while they win. Two very difficult opponents coming up to prove their position in San Marcos and New Orleans. (0)
2. Phoenix Resurrection (6-0) – Shut out the Fresno Jaguars while dominating their offense, holding them to just 129 yards. Offense has proven sufficient all year while the defense has carried them. The saying is “defense wins championships” after all. (0)
3. Miami Canes (5-1) – Beat the Rivermen in overtime while conceding a team history worst 5 turnovers in a game. Unable to hold onto 10 point lead in the 4th, but defense came up with key interception in OT to set up FG. New Orleans is next in enormous matchup. (0)
4. Las Vegas Legends (6-0) – Got the victory thanks to a missed XP by H-Town. I’ve been hard on this team, but they’ve done what is necessary to have 6 wins in 6 games. 3 of next 4 games are the way to prove position, facing Austin, Anchorage and Raving. (+1)
5. Austin Lumberjacks (5-1) – Trounced Tallahassee while getting turnover issues in check, only throwing 2 INTs in a game where ball control was in Austin’s favor all game long. Next two games are a chance to knock off both West Conf undefeated teams, Las Vegas first. (+1)
6. San Marcos Rivermen (4-2) – Able to come back in the 4th against the Canes, but unable to procure the victory. Hard to fall very far after pushing the third ranked team into overtime. The Hounds are next, setting up possibly one of the best matchups of the year. (-2)
7. Raving Mad Dawgs (5-1) –Schedule argument is likely gone against this team. A great win against Anchorage while holding the Maulers to under 150 yards of offense. Schedule gets a little easier in the next three games, but nothing to skip over. (0)
8. New Orleans Golden Kangaroos (5-1) – Got back to their winning ways demolishing the listless Rednecks. Game against the Canes will likely show where New Orleans belongs. If offense comes to play, an upset of the #3 team could be very possible. (+1)
9. Anchorage Maulers (4-2) – Tough loss to Raving as the offense was held down Las Vegas and Phoenix are sandwiched by two gimme games. If Maulers go 3-1 in these 4, they will be in good shape for a playoff run. Anything less could be a disappointment. (-1)
10. Dallas Strikers (4-2) – Welcome to the top 10 Dallas. Only blemishes are combined 6 points in losses to Austin and Anchorage. Also considered Tucson will battle with the Strikers to see who really belongs in the Top 10. (+1)
Out: Pittsburgh Soldiers – Gave the Hounds a good run, but another loss drops them out
