We'll probably have about a 50% completion rate this season...which is just about perfect for PeeWee IMO.
I'm glad the 65-70% garbage from the past few seasons is gone...let's get back to some good football where coaching counts. Chucking the ball 25 yards down the field on 3rd & 14 and catching it 2/3 of the time was really bad football. I'm excited to see the completion rate on 3rd & long going really low...it's more realistic. Just like in real life you'll have to get some yards on 1st & 2nd down to set up manageable situations. Throwing the ball 10+ yards 3 times in a row knowing you will very likely catch one of them was just plain stupid.
And for the record, the s12 slam was more like 25-30% completion...this is much improved over that, and teams are still capable of balanced attacks.
I understand that it takes talent to look at a defense and realize which pass plays will work and how to set the progression. But I think a lot of people under appreciate that it takes talent to look at a defense, breaking down when they run that defense and how they are likely going to tag you...and then knowing which run plays will work; including ones that are rarely used. And I'm talking about studying a defense...not being a 3rd rate OC and just looking at the stats under the 'scout' feature to see which runs work, I think we all can agree that those OCs are pretty bad.
