Houston Iron Cobras Hard On Recruiting Trail
Houston, TX -- In season 17 so far have gone 7-6, last week had a 41-38 victory over St. Thomas Frigbuccanears. Newly appointed Offensive Coordinator Ron Newman as been hard on the recruiting trail, since he is only having 5 returning players for next season the preparation for the jump to lvl 18 cap has him trying to do anything he can to improve this mediocre Cobras. Coach Newman has already gotten commitments from several top free agents next season.
Including QB, Rob "Cannon" Hughes a 6'1" 230 pocket passer who looks to be the potential start next season, however he will not be handed the job as Ida Quarterback a 6'6" 230lb pocket passer is looking to challenge him for the role. "I can't really say who will be are starting Quarterback next season, we are trying to win games whoever can do that will be out there,'' says Coach Newman "I'm still looking for a good running QB to bring that into our game."
As always the running game will be a huge part of the Corbas' game plan. Bringing in top recruit Ranout Ofideas 5'9" 190 lbs from the Memphis Titans (D League Team) is going to add instant fire power to what seems to be a loaded offensive side of the ball. Ofideas currently is avg 13.7 ypc and 11.9 ypc in the pasing game. The possible addition of Randy Chapman to the offensive line looks to solidfi an heavily recruited front. John Stenquist who currently plays LT for the Los Angeles Spartans with Coach Newman's son Ron Newman will be brought up to play for the Cobras. At 6'4" 303 lbs John Stenquist aka Big John as some of the guys call him is seemed to be a anchor to go along side of Randy Chapman, who isn't listed as verbal commit but does have high interest. "If we can get Randy (Chapman) on board with Stenquist, Magee, and Rogers we're talking about a possible run at the championship next season." RT Rogers is a very well built tackle at 6'2" 310 lbs, is said to be able to play anywhere along the line.
IamStill Open, a 6'4" 245lb tight end looks to lead a Cobra passing attack. Open is going to be a dangerous weapon with Coach Newman's offense who likes getting the ball to the TE. "We just try to get them the ball," says Coach Newman "very few people know how to react with such talented TEs in camp, and the minute they slide over to cover him we find Run or Zealot wide open.' Both Run Rabbit Run and Fast Zealot are threats all over the field. Fast Zealot is also looking for a position in the return game but with so much talent one this ball club this season that could be a hard thing to do.
The Iron Cobras are upgrading everything next season Coach Newman isn't gonna let this team repeat a 8th seed playoff spot again. "Ya know, I came in here late but Mike and I sat down and talked we've built a great relationship between us and want to bring players on that are going to be part of this franchise in the future, it's not about being one and done here. We are changing attitudes, no more is skipping out on team meetings gonna work. Championship's are built during the off-season and this off-season we are getting in the championship mind set we want to keep our players active and healthy." said Coach Newman
