HOUSTON (Reuters) - This offseason, the Houston Toxins franchise will be increasing its home, Toxic Stadium, by 5,520 seats. Reportedly, the construction costs have topped the $3 million mark and will bring the total capacity to 15,980.
ExxonMobil was the major contributer to the stadium expansion, providing nearly 70% of the funding. The remaining 30% was made up of team assets, city contribution and a .005 cent sales tax hike.
For providing the majority of the backing, ExxonMobil now owns the naming rights to the field itself. The Toxins would not, however, part ways with the stadium naming rights just yet. "ExxonMobil Field at Toxic Stadium is now the official name," Owner/QB Brance Reed released in a statement earlier today.
