Many people want the Silver leagues to be randomly reshuffled to spread out the talent after last seasons changes.

Bort posted this at the time to explain why he changed the promotion system - http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=4027866

The outcome of these changes was that existing Silver leagues were condensed into 1 conference, and Copper leagues were promoted into the other conference, creating unbalanced leagues. This will happen again this off-season if changes aren't made.

In a day or 2 I'll be posting in the Suggestions thread asking that Pee Wee Silver gets reshuffled to randomly place existing teams throughout all Silver leagues, and that a new system for Copper promotions be implemented.

Promotion Idea
Copper teams can still be promoted based on rivalry points, but only after existing Silver league teams are locked in to their current league.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you have any objections? If so post here now.

I object on the grounds of logic, a thing which has been proven time and again to have no place in this game.

Tbh I think Bort'll keep the same silver shuffle script used last time. Regardless, anything else gets a +1 from me anyway.

It will be awesome seeing how destroyed some of the promoting teams are going to be next season in Gold.

I'm all for equal competition (where all teams in a league are more evenly matched), there's nothing worse than playing a team that you know there is no way you can even keep the score close, let alone win.

With that in mind, this seems like a pretty straight forward idea to me, so sorry if it's been thought up and rejected in the past...

Why not have the silver leagues ranked from top to bottom with promotions/demotions?

All copper teams enter at the lower tiers (maybe copper league winners can get fast tracked up a few levels?)
All elite silver teams fight their way to the top silver league and from there get promoted into gold.

This would keep the competition even across all leagues and allow rivalries to stay in tact for the most part.

I'm sure there will be a few gaps through the ranks as teams quit, but it's just a matter of working out a method of promotion for the teams that were over achieving in lower leagues. Maybe undefeated teams (the type that beat everyone by 100+ points) take priority in fast tracking up to fill gaps? Anyone who beats all their competition by that many points is probably playing 2-4 leagues too low anyway.

Have you gotten any kind of response from Catch? It's hard to know if they understand what's going on here when they don't make any kind of comment.

Catch posted an announcement about league structure changes today - http://goallineblitz.com/game/announcement.pl?id=381 - no mention of PW though.

I'll make the suggestion thread sometime Friday night US time, after I finish work tomorrow. Hopefully we can get a good response from the PW community to make them take notice.

There can be a seeding system:

All time records of all silver teams with current owners (it can be done for all teams cause it's a nice feature) are calculated and the teams are ranked according to these stats. If a team's owner is changed, then its stats are reset.

According to these ranks, all teams are distributed to the silver leagues... seed #1 to silver league 1, seed #2 to silver league 2... seed #9 to silver league 1 etc... So all silver leagues will be balanced. This redistribution should be done at the end of each season.

This also fits to current league system, no need to change anything (promotions etc).

Catch played pee wee dot ball for 2 1/2 seasons so he has some Idea of how pee wee ball is played. A lot has changed since then, roster counts, advanced AI's, Custom slots etc. but the basic concept of good teams and bad teams still exist.

I like this, but what would rank higher? - a team who played 3 seasons averaging a 12-4 record, or a team with with an experienced owner in their first season going 16-0 and beating everyone by 100-255 points?

Maybe some kind of BCS style ranking script would work, accounting for the average victory margin vs quality of opposition, not just the final record. That way new teams can jump up the rankings quicker if they are truly out performing other young teams.

It'd also be cool to have the rankings listed somewhere so that teams know their overall ranking and if they are close to promotion/demotion (ie ranked 32 plays league #1, rank 33 plays league #2)

To be fair, it should only count regular season games (at least not scrims and preseason), and realign every team at season rollover based on current end of season rank.

It doesn't need to be a perfect calculation. It can be something like this: Overall (league and playoffs) winning percentage + 0.1 for each playoff victory, 0.2 for each championship + 0.1 for each season on silver + 0.2 for each season on gold etc... Calculation can be done based on last 3 seasons.

As I said, it doesn't need to be a perfect calculation, cause this rank will only determine where the team will be placed, if somehow a team gets a higher rank they didn't deserve, it will be automatically adjusted in a couple of seasons.

Yes, this rankings should be listed somewhere, but I need to clarify something: I'm offering a rotation system instead of random shuffler. Teams will rotate between silver leagues, but this will not effect to promotions/demotions. . Current promotion and demotion rules will be applied. Champions of the each silver league will promote to gold league, last X will be demoted to copper etc... After the promotions and demotions, rest of silver teams will be rotated for next season.

Let's say we have 8 silver leagues right now, so

seed 1, 9, 17, 25, 33, 41, 49, .... will be placed on silver league 1.
seed 2, 10, 18, 26, 34, 42, 50, ... will be placed on silver league 2.

So each league will have 2-3 strong teams (probably ex-gold teams), 2-3 copper teams (promoted coppers + some silver teams may go CPU), and rest of teams will be experienced silver ones. All silver leagues will be balanced.

This system can also be applied to copper leagues.
