While football is one of my favorite spectator sports -- and hence the reason I here at GLB -- I never actually participated in it because I never wanted to take a season off of lacrosse. Everyone is World Cup crazy right now but being a lacrosse player and fan, I am more interested in the Worlds in Manchester that kick off in the middle of July.

I was just curious to know if there are other GLBers who have discovered the wonderful sport of lacrosse.

Here on the West Coast it goes like this:

Field lacrosse: Fall/Winter
Box lacrosse: Spring/Summer

....makes perfect sense to me.

you like box or field better? I unfortunately never played I honestly wish I picked it up when some of my friends did. BTW I'm guessing the world championships are for field?

I'm pretty pumped vreck.

However, I think they need to learn how to properly seed the teams. They purposely put the top 6 countries in Blue and then based the rest of the groups off strength. Of course, we get Australia first which could be tough with all the rugby players, then we play defending champs Canada. Hopefully we wreck, considering with the Powell bros, we should be at the top right away.

It's funny, I have played box for over 30 years and always considered field as a 'second class' variation of the game. It wasn't until the last couple of years that I really began to appreciate the field game and in that time it has become my preferred sport.

I definitely think the US is the team to beat. I remember how exciting it was when Canada won 4 years ago -- and not just because I am Canadian but also because the US rarely loses -- and while a lot of people think Canada deserves to be the top team as the defending champs, I say now way. Canada builds their team using the best box players in the world, and US builds their team with the best field players in the world. I have to think that 9 out of 10 times the US would win that matchup.

I grew up in Iowa, so I don't know much about it...it's not an official high school sport. I think some of the larger schools might have it as a club sport.

I think the University of Iowa has a pretty decent team, but there are only 1 or 2 players actually from Iowa (most from Illinois).

Maize and blue have been #1 and won the D2 title like 4-5 straight years.
