Week 6: 1 VS 2, battle for the top seed!

Week 6 is here, and all eyes will be on the Austin - Honolulu game. It's by far the most important game of the regular season for both teams with the 1st seed as the prize. There were a few shake ups in the rankings this week, let's see how it panned out.

1-4 all hold steady with expected results coming in. Bratislava has lost 1 too many games to be the 5th seed anymore, and that vacated place has KKAR moving up into it. The BEASTS move up to 6th seed with a win last week. Lambeau drops to 7th, and is going to need to get things in gear if they want to make the playoffs. In 8th place a re-surging New Orleans keeps their playoff hopes alive. WAR MACHINE moves up to 9th, and SOUTH GEORGIA jumps up to 10th. Ontario put in a solid effort against KKAR and gets the 11th spot. 8 Mile's stock is fading fast, and they are going to have to have a spectacular 2nd half of the season to make the playoffs. They are now 12th. Corpus Cristi clocks in at 13th, and the last two spots stay the same.

Now down to game predictions. I will order the games based on my rankings.

Game 1: Austin Wineswilling Fancy Boys VS Honolulu Hurricane Wife Carriers
This is the game of the week, as the top 2 teams battle it out for Conference dominance. Both teams are starting to get their Team Chemistry up to snuff, but Hololulu's is still lagging a bit. I still have to pick Austin to win the game at this time of the season, but it's going to be a close one.

Game prediction: 21 - 20 Austin.

Game 2: New Jersey Battalion VS Chicago Beasts
Chicago is showing signs of life after last week's win over Bratislava. Still they are not quite up to New Jersey's level, and are going to fall short of a Win this game.

Game Prediction: 36 - 20 New Jersey Battalion.

Game 3: Richmond Rebel Yell VS 8 Mile Assault
The Assault really needs to get a win here to keep their playoff hopes alive. Unfortunately for them, they are going to be outmatched in this game. Richmond is too good of a team to drop the ball on this game.

Game prediction: 36 - 14 Richmond.

Game 4: Ketchikan Kamper Adventure Rentals VS WAR MACHINE
KKAR has yet to be tested so far this season, but they are going to be facing a MACHINE team that is looking better and better as the season progresses. This game is my weekly "Upset" matchup, and I think the WAR MACHINE will steal a win here.

Game prediction: 24 - 10 WAR MACHINE

Game 5: Bratislava Lambeau Leapers VS Chicago Blitz
Bratislava is on a 3 game skid, and this weeks game against the Chicago Blitz is just what they needed to snap the loosing streak. Chicago hasn't won a game yet this season, and I don't expect them to this week either.


Game prediction: 16 - 13 Bratislava

Game 6: New Orleans Hoodoo Voodoo VS Gaines Panthers
New Orleans gets the pass this week, and I am sure they are glad to take a breather.

Game prediction: 255 - 0 New Orleans

Game 7: SOUTH GEORGIA GROWL VS Baton Rouge Buccaneers
SOUTH GEORGIA is coming off an impressive win against the Assault last week. I expect they will keep the ball rolling this week with another impressive win against Baton Rouge.


Game prediction: 75 - 7 SOUTH GEORGIA

Game 8: Ontario Ice Weasels VS Corpus Christi Illegal Aliens
The Weasels and the Aliens have been a bit of a mystery to me since coming into the Conference. This week they get to play each other, to decide who is the better team. In this one I have to go with the Ice Weasels though. They have been more consistent, and played tougher games, that Corpus Christi, and have shown they are tough opponents.

Game prediction: 35 - 16 Ontario.

And that's this weeks predictions! Remember the grain of salt.... Pringles are the salty goodness of this week. You just can't have just 1.

We've hardly just come into the Conference. This is our 4th season in the USA Pro Western Conference. We finished 9th one season and made the playoffs the others, including last season. We're hardly a new or mystery team. Based on our performance so far, we are on track to be back in the playoffs this season.

I don't agree that the Ice Weasals have faced tougher opponents than CCIA, or that they have done better against equivalent opponents.

Game 1: Austin Wineswilling Fancy Boys VS Honolulu Hurricane Wife Carriers
Game prediction: 21 - 20 Austin.
Actual: 80 - 24 HHWC

Honolulu completed 32 of 42 passes for an amazing 76% completion rate and a combined 448 passing yards and 2 TD's. Their Running Game wasn't as good only gaining 90 yards, but they got 4 TD's out of it. Austin, didn't run the ball at all, instead throwing 65 times for a 390 yards, but gave up 5 interceptions. I can't help but think that Austin sand bagged a bit this game, but even if they did, 56 points is a lot to make up come the playoffs.

Game 2: New Jersey Battalion VS Chicago Beasts
Game Prediction: 36 - 20 New Jersey Battalion.
Actual: 98 -19 New Jersey

Chicago put in a decent effort offensively an defensively, unfortunately giving up 6 special points TD's and the resulting morale loss erased any hope they had of keeping the game close.


Game 3: Richmond Rebel Yell VS 8 Mile Assault
Game prediction: 36 - 14 Richmond.
Actual: 41 - 17 Richmond

8 Mile hung with Richmond in the running game, but gave up 311 yards and 2 TD's in the Air with a 75% completion rate against. Next week won't be any better for them, as Honolulu has already shown they have a massively good Air Attack. 8 Mile's playoff chances are just down to a sliver now.

Game 4: Ketchikan Kamper Adventure Rentals VS WAR MACHINE
Game prediction: 24 - 10 WAR MACHINE
Actual: 21 - 16

This was my upset pick of the week, and if it were not for an early Punt Return by HB Rallos Zek (I'm a Tallon Zek man myself), WAR MACHINE might have pulled it off. But Alas it was not to be for them. KKAR Moves to 5-1 with 1 more "easy" game before they hit the hard part of their schedule.

Game 5: Bratislava Lambeau Leapers VS Chicago Blitz
Game prediction: 16 - 13 Bratislava
Actual: 44 - 9

I tell ya, the passing game in USA Pro is reining supreme for those who have one. Another 300+ yard passing game, this time in Bratislava's favor. The Hapless Blitz are not going to make the playoffs this season, and will probably get demoted along with Gains. The only real question is weather or not they can sneak in another win before the end of the season.

Game prediction: 255 - 0 New Orleans
Actual: 255 - 0 (438 - 0 Actual)New Orleans

Game 7: SOUTH GEORGIA GROWL VS Baton Rouge Buccaneers
Game prediction: 75 - 7 SOUTH GEORGIA
Actual: 75 - 6 SOUTH GEORGIA

Hey.... I got one right! Yay!

Game 8: Ontario Ice Weasels VS Corpus Christi Illegal Aliens
Game prediction: 35 - 16 Ontario.
Actual: 34 - 31 Corpus Christi

Well Done Corpus Christi! You win, and you move up... that's how the game is played. Another 300+ yard passing game was the difference in this game. Big Plays seem to = Wins this season. Well Played!

This week I went a dismal 5 for 8. I'll have to do better next week or I will be eating my own salt!

If they did sandbag then they've admitted they are inferior and can only hope to get lucky. IMO, Austin is above doing anything like that and had a really off game. You islanders are the best in USPL at this point for sure, whatever the case

Correct. That doesn't discount HHWC's win at all, but I was out of town for the weekend and didn't watch a single play in scouting or change anything in the DAI.
