With the impending move of Nebraska to the Big Ten, here are some additional thoughts:

Pac-16 will add Texas, TT, Tx AM, Baylor, OK, OK ST. (Baylor must be included to get the Texas schools per the TX Legislature)

Don't be surprised to see Missouri and Iowa State join the fold and maybe even the 2 Kansas schools for a Big 16 (Big Ten expansion) OR MAYBE:

MWC/WAC will do a partial merge into the Big 12:
* Kansas
* Kansas State
* Iowa State
* Missouri
Utah
BYU
Boise State
Fresno State
TCU
Colorado State
Houston
San Diego State
Nevada
UNLV
UTEP

I think your second scenario is more likely should the Huskers get the invitation to the Big 10. Nebraska won't jump from the Big 12 without a solid invite from the Big 10, and I just don't see the Big 10 adding Iowa State or either of the Kansas schools. It sounds like the Big 10 has soured on Missouri for whatever reason. Of course, all of this realignment would probably be averted should Notre Dame join the Big 10 because they have been promised to be the only team added to the Big 10 if they join.

I think the Big 10's preference of teams to add would be something like 1. Notre Dame, 2. Nebraska, 3. Rutgers (or someone else on the east coast in a big TV market.)

I think if Notre Dame stays independent through the weekend, the Big 10 will invite only Nebraska to get to 12 teams so they can have a conference championship game. The Big 10 will then sit back and wait things out to see if they can land one of the other "BIG" schools to bolster the conference before they start plucking from the other Big 12 North, Big East, and ACC schools. For the time, I think the Big 10 would be happy with just 12 teams. If for some reason, the 4 "super" conferences were to look imminent, Notre Dame would come running so they aren't left out of the BCS picture totally.

The big question is what happens to the Big 12 should Nebraska get the invite and leave for the Big 10? I am fairly sure, the PAC-10 would make a strong case to bring in the B12 south, leaving the 5 north teams to fend for themselves. I think the most likely home at that point would be either the MWC or WAC or some combination of the two.

The Big 10, is a shell of what it was in the 90's. We have some good teams, but other conferences are just better in general.

PAC-10 officialls adds Colorado U. as member. Talk is that they are trying to avert adding Baylor and take the entire Big-12 and make two 8 team divisions, Original Pac-8, and a Big-8 with Colorado, Both Arizonas, Both Oklahomas, and Three Texas ( U/AM/Tech ). If they have to add Baylor than one of these will get the shaft.

Its getting silly, Nebraska dropping out to join the big 10, Colorado joins the Pack 10. Everyone else is scrambling to find other conferences to join. What a mess!

Mountain West gets Boise, and likely Kansas and K State. Getting Jayhawks for the basketball conference is huge too.

This whole thing sucks ass. Rivalries made college football, and some of the best ones are being split up for cash.

Sure a few rivalries may split up (not that they cant schedule a seasonal out-of-conference game) but if the Big 12 goes the way of the dodo, as rumored, to beef up the PAC 10 and Big 10 then it just puts college football one step closer to a workable playoffs system, imo

College football playoff system >>>>>>> a few weak rivalries (with potential for OOC game)

"a few weak rivalries"
Wow, a real historian and CFB fan huh? They have already made so many compromises to the almighty $ that a lot of the essence has been lost. I know it's going to happen but it is very sad indeed.
Rivalries that have been established over decades and some even longer, are one of the key elements that make CGB the great sport that it is.

Name these great rivalries that will be lost if the current rumors come to fruition...

I dont want to hear OU/Nebraska type rivalries because that rivalry has been dead for some time now... also dont want to hear one-sided rivalries like Colorado/Nebraska (which is not very old) where Colorado considered Nebraska their main rival yet Nebraska could really care less.

Missouri vs. Kansas.

I believe it's the oldest rivalry west of the Mississippi and second overall.

They are to be split up in at least 2 of the rumors I have heard.

Not that it wouldn't be funny to hear the mizzou guys whine for another decade about how they got jobbed.

LOL!

You are in dreamland imo.

There is no D1 football playoff for the exact same reason that the big 12 is being dissolved. M-O-N-E-Y

The only speculation I have seen that would split them up would be if they were to join the Big 10 and that speculation really hasnt gained any steam from what I have read...
