I've maxed Ball Hawk & Showboat at 15 for my CB. He's averaged over 50 PDs each of the last two seasons. What would be the next choice? I've seen much talk referencing Clutch, is that the best for my next pick?

well the best thing is to reset show boat and put those points in 3DS. as for the next VA you should work on, clutch and FBG are both valid options.

Here's my opinion, not everybody agrees with it:
(for a shut down corner)
Third down stopper > Football Genius > Ball Hawk > Clutch
It's not a bad idea to have anywhere from 5-10 in Ball Hawk while you max the other two.
Clutch is good, but both 3DS and FBG are giving you assured bonuses when they matter.
Ball hawk is great for closing gaps on faster receivers that pull away. The better you cover your opponent the less of it you should need, so this is largely dependent on build and competition, but having none is probably a mistake.
Also, Second WInd is a powerful VA if you're facing opponents that challenge you. (At least it was before the change and I doubt they made it useless)

I'm actually working Clutch right now, rather than 3DS. Clutch helps trigger VA's and SA's, so I'm hoping it triggers the 2 VA's more as well as Superior Vision and Shutdown Coverage. I'll probably go to Streaky after Clutch is maxed out, too.

i tried high jumper and red zone freak on a couple CBs instead of FBG or clutch...no idea how it'll work, but i'm curious.

high jumper is another good one. i forgot it. i'll edit it in my above post, but i cant say im a fan of RZF. there just arent enough plays in the 20 to make it worthwhile, imo.

well im not sure i would call it a bad idea... but its not the smartest thing, which is why i listed it just about last in my list. there are lots of other VAs that i would take over it. in fact, now that i think about it, i would also probably take slow starter over streaky.

imo
Clutch is not = to 3DS
3DS > Clutch and should be a CB's 2nd VA IMO.
Read Clutch. It says:
"Each level of Clutch will increase the likelihood by 5%." Which means there is a 25% chance it will not trigger.
Now read 3DS:
"This player steps it up when it counts. Each level of Third Down Stopper gives a +3% bonus to deflecting passes on 3rd and 4th down."
Maxing this VA gives a +45%flat bonus to deflect passes. Meaning it activates every 3rd and 4th down.
I'll take the flat bonus over the likelihood to occur because it will also stack with any Pass Deflection % AEQ.
IMO you go in this order as your 1st 3 VAs:
Ball Hawk
3DS
Football Genius

well i did say imo... you can have your own opinions. i'll still love you.
but it really is a matter of opinion, and also a matter of how you build. i like my CBs to have higher catching and ~10 SH, and since clutch will help you get INTs, i like it. it also helps with a lot of other things... in fact, if you go and look at CBs that have clutch and look at some of their game stats on 3rd and 4th downs, its kind of ridiculous. like 6-7 seasons ago, i looked at the numbers for my level 63 retired on 3rd and 4th downs (it was maybe s8, im dont remember), and he had somewhere in the realm of 60 PDs, 30 Tckls, 1 FF, 4 TFLs, and 5 INTs. so yeah, i think its good and is right up there with 3DS. whether or not you like it, it is still a VA that most CBs should probably get.

Lots of good discussion, thanks. Contrary to everyone's opinions, I don't plan to remove my Showboat piece. Since morale is of higher importance, I want to run with it and see if I notice effects on opponents. In fact, I'm leaning toward quite a few morale pieces on my various players.
However the discussion on Clutch & 3DS is great. I think I will go with 3DS since I will be building it during the season. That way I get the flat bonus. However when the season resets, I'll move those points to Clutch to take advantage of the full 75% probability. Then probably rebuild 3DS next season.
