what you should really thread the title is: Lucky Speyside

your defense saved your ass and it was your offense.
our AI took on a mind of it's own with all that passing today. all the turnovers where just plain silly. the most frustrating loss i have been assoiciated with.

Games like this are good for debate.

Where do interceptions and fumbles fit into things? Are they things you can plan for and consider them part of your defensive game plan?

I've always taken the approach that you cannot plan on interceptions or fumbles. You can look at your team or an opponent and see where they're likely to happen, but banking on them is risky, there is a lot of luck involved.

As a defensive coordinator, I've been on both sides. Games where my team gives up more yards and generally gets out-played but we win due to turnovers and games where my team has out gained the opposition by a significant margin but lost due to turnovers.

Speyside has a great defense, no question about it. With Moretti posting, I'll point out that they only 2 teams to keep us under double digits, outside of the pre-season, were Swaziland and Speyside and you've got some of the same GMs between those teams.

Tulsa does....we count on you coughing it up 4-6 times a game....and it usually happens.

"simmy" should be an adjective for this site to describe games like this one

I disagree. Some of my best dots I intentionally built to cause turnovers. When a fumble forcing LB forces fumbles, it doesn't come as a surprise to me, and when an cb built to snag ints does just that, it is also simply a plan that came to fruition as intended.

I'm involved with neither team, but my two cents here is that while you can't plan for interceptions or fumbles, you can definitely gameplan to minimize them on offense and to hunt them down on defense.

Now, when you build to force fumbles and ints, it's always high risk high reward - when you do force fumbles it's still some luck involved, just less than when dots that aren't built to do so force them because you've put your dot in a position to do it more often. Some games though you don't get the turnover, and therein lies the tradeoff.

Homer came through big in a big game, through design and yes through a little luck as well.

Exactly correct. Kind of what I was trying to imply, but you phrased it much better. And the part of minimizing them on O, hunting them on D is very true as well...
