Frankly, I think we probably have enough tournaments. We've got one for each of the lower tiers, plus one that combines the bottom two, one that combines the top two, one for the best of the best, one for non-boosting teams (at least, assuming Halo comes back next season), and of course one for passing. And then we've got Kaerey's second chance tournament for people who didn't quite get it done in one of the other tourneys. We tried a CPU tournament, but only 3 teams joined. And of course we can't forget Thunder's Tournament of Futility.
What other good ideas are there for a tournament? I might try to run one next season if there's a good niche I can fill.
1) Halo's tournament
This non-boosting tournament is a great option for teams that don't want to pay to win, or who are willing to wait until after they're out of the tournament to do their boosting. Anybody heard from LMH lately about whether he's going to come back and run this tourney next season?
2) Keep It On The Ground Tournament
a) no passing
b) no punting
c) KR must be a starting offensive linemen (to try to prevent KR from going anywhere)
Basically the opposite of the Air Attack Tourney. The AAT was hilarious the first season, because S12 passing was so astonishingly bad. Now that pee wee passing is a valid strategy, the idea of a tournament that excludes it may not be as laughable as it once was.
MikeinFl: goal line only for one quarter
3) The OOP Tournament
one rule--nobody can play in their correct position. Might be fun as a prelude to Iron Man football to try out some of the different combinations of players' nominal positions and their positions on the field. The real negative about this idea is how ridiculously difficult it would be to police.
4) The Basic AI Tournament
Many possible variations on this, including requiring basic AI only on defense, only on offense, or whatever. Difficult to police, and frankly this is what casual leagues are for.
5) The Biggest Loser
Try to lose. Loser advances. Maybe not very fun, but who knows?
6) The OH-IO Tournament
One rule--OH-IO must be a GM on your team in order to participate. Or we could pick on some other GM whore.
7) ???
8) Profit
9) The Pick a Winner Tournament

That way the AI is easy to set up for that game and the D better guess correctly.
The negative I see for this one is that it favors good defensive teams over good offensive teams, but it might be fun anyway. Until you run into one of Dead.Ed or Gerr's teams. PING72 Possibly allow 1 offensive play each quarter, so 4 in a regular game, or 5 if overtime. deertagg could make it additive, so like you get 1 play in the first Q, that play plus one new one in the 2nd, those two plus one new one in the third, and then those three plus a fourth in the fourth Q.
10) Special Teams Tournament (thanks to Kaerey)
No plays but kickoffs, punts, and field goals.
11) Use the FB/TE Tournament. Basically don't allow any HB rushes. DTownOkie
12) 4One Tournament (thanks to Gerr)
Basically, break down the playbook into a variety of groups. RB inside rush, RB off-tackle, RB outside rush, QB rush (any), etc. Then each team can pick four different categories, and run one offense each quarter. No duplication in different quarters of the same game. Another variant of this would be formations. Pick four different formations, you must use each one for an entire quarter and nothing else for that quarter.
13) Iron Man Tournament (thanks to Gerr)
Basically, limit each team to only using (minimum) players. From what I've gathered following the various iron man discussions, you need to have 20 guys on the DC or else the game will auto-reorder the DC before the game. That, or you have to have 20 guys on the team or the game will add CPUs and auto-reorder the DC. haole, Larry Roadgrader, or TrevJo might be able to give us more detail on this, as I believe they may have attempted to run a couple of iron man games.
14) Formation Elimination Tournament
After thinking a little more about Gerr's four-quarter idea, I came up with this one. Each game, you can only use one formation. Once you've used a formation for a game, you can't use it again in the tournament. We've got I, SI, WI, PS, SB, SG, SG5 and GL, so the tournament could go 8 rounds without ever duplicating a formation.
