I would try to get a piece with Pass Quality on it, and a Piece for TS.

Try and get both, but if I had to choose only one, I'd go pass quality +%. Vanilla Tight Spiral pieces really aren't that great in the grand scheme of things. I like to hold off on AEQ until the pieces come with attribute gains. My QB at lvl 50'ish found a +3 vis w/ +1 Tight Spiral, so don't set your sights low. Save your shopping tokens for better AEQ rolls.

would a +3 blocking, +1 field general piece be worth buying? I love the field general, but not so much the blocking... how rare is a FG piece?

I'm in the same boat, but I find a piece whose attribute bonus was only slightly less useless, getting a +2 Jumping and +1 FG.
