Normally, most or all equipment is put into one attribute (e.g. speed), you don't spend points on Special Abilities until much later in your career, and you start a guy by pumping up one attribute pretty high (73+) before moving on to the next attribute (e.g. agility). It's also best to train on intense training at the beginning to save up bonus tokens. Advanced equipment sucks at lower levels. Also when you finally do get Special Abilities, focus on one tree - either Elusive or Power.

Unfortunately, almost anyone would tell you to retire that HB and start over. Our first player always comes out bad.
