ShamRockers are still struggling on the D side of the ball but we are making moves to get where we need to be... Should be a fun and competitive season tho!

I have no idea why the Spirit's offense was sooo anemic in the first game. Playing Niagra in week 2 dosen't help...

Same for the Breakers, we had a lot of trouble scoring. I guess having 4 turnovers doesnt help.

well when your entire team is owned by one player you should hope the team is able to stay together and be dominant.

For those of you who are interested in the perspective of team owners who own their own players::

Positives about owning the players on your own team:
--No whining
--No flame wars in the Forums
--Consistent roster so Chemisty is generally good
--No whining
--Signing your own players is pretty easy (unless you're schizophrenic) so you can save money for your stadium
--Demoting someone from a starting slot when you sign a free agent isn't high drama, i.e., no whining
--Control over team tactics
--No whining
--Control over builds (which, if you suck at building pl;ayers, could end up a negative---in my case, the jury's still out)
--Ability to generate depth
--Don't have to worry about owner screwing my player.....see "Gary Gangstaz"
--No "Can you just release my player that you just gave a $50,000 bonus to so I can go and play with (a) my own team that I just got, or (b) my friend's team that he just got. No? You mean you actually want some type of COMPENSATION for the fact that you already gave me that huge chunk of money and you won't be able to find a replacement if Ieave? OK, then you're an @$$hole and I'm going to vent my spleen in the Forums and try to trash your reputation...", i.e. NO WHINING!!!!

Negatives about owning the players on your team:
--Verrrrrry quiet Forums......but if I want conversation, I can get it in real life. Let's be real here: Most Forums follow a pattern of a page or so of useful postings that rapidly degenerates into a flame war and/or repetition of the same old themes.
--Costs money.........but I'd rather pay a little extra $$$ and avoid the annoyance and downright frustration of many of the more immature players in GLB. Granted, it does place a serious roadblock in your ability to interact with some really cool people who also are in GLB, but there's always the public forums and I communicate with those I wish to via PM. This is RECREATION, and I don't find managing illogical, whiny, irresponsible people to be enjoyable (you know who I'm talking about)
--Hard to recruit FAs because they are concerned that you'll not be fair with their player......unfortunate, but a necessary evil.
--Other players take potshots at you (not you guys.....your comments have been very civil and even funny, but there are those on the Forums who are extreme in their whining about "it's not fair" http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=386990) because:
(a) this is supposed to be a "social" game-----Give me a break. Most players are either playing on teams with people they know IRL or are just waiting to get a team themselves so they CAN play with people they know IRL. Not everyone, certainly, and the game has the potential to be a GREAT social game IF owners and players abide by certain codes of conduct, but the sad fact is that most players don't and there's currently no way to know which owners/players are going to be reasonable and which ones won't. If I'm interested in social networking, I'll do it on MySpace or Facebook or even, GASP, face-to-face in my community! You and everybody else on GLB came here to have the opportunity to try to simulate being a football player/owner, but there are too many people out to take advantage of unsuspecting players. Look at how many complaint threads there are on the Public Forums DESPITE a formal ban on trashing owners/players imposed by the game!
(b) "the rich just get richer"-----ok, class envy strikes again. But there are many ways to play this game. Sure, it's an advantage to be able to pay for your own players, but it's also an advantage to be in a dorm and have 20 other guys you can build a team with. Should they be restricted from playing on a team together? It's also an advantage if you're a college or high school student and have the time to pore over the Forums to look for FAs instead of having a "real" job with set hours. Should students be somehow limited because they have an advantage in time available to spend on the game?

For me, the positives GREATLY outweigh the negatives. When my team loses (as I think they will this week), I get frustrated and I want to do what I can to improve my team. When my player gets demoted on other teams, as long as it seems semi-logical it's the same--frustrating but motivating to improve my player. But when people do things like entice players to re-enlist with their team, then turn around one day later and trade them away for max cash just so they can build their stadium, THAT kind of thing would get me pissed and I just don't need that from my entertainment.

And I don't have hard data to support this, but it seems as though more and more people are beginning to come around to my way of thinking, especially since many have found that their owners have proven untrustworthy or unreliable. I'm finding more and more FAs have some connection to a team where they have many players on the same team. This makes perfect sense--once they find a team that they feel has an owner they can trust, why go anywhere else?

Yah, the last resort of the intellectually incompetent: "YOU'RE A HOMO!!!" Good one.

BTW, this just proves my point about how threads get hijacked into flame wars.

Well I'm fine with you owning everyone on your own team as like I said you should be doing pretty well and have your guys level as you do own your entire team so it's easier to manage them and make sure people are active, as in if you are active they are, if you aren't they aren't.

I think the only issue with someone owning their entire team is that it's harder to compete since I have to find free agents that will play for a fair value but of course I just don't feel like spending the $100 every couple months or so to boost so to each their own.

And good luck knightman this year I just wish we both could move up and not just one.

LOL, it's no prob.

Really, it actually does prove my point about why I prefer to own my own players and why "active Forums" is not always such a big positive. The most active threads tend to be the ones where people are bickering back and forth. That may appeal to some, but it's just not what I'm here for.

But thanks for the support in any case, both of you!

BTW, Raves, how did you slip a camera into my computer????
