Getting closer to the playoffs now...although this is a pretty uneventful week for a lot of the teams.
Season record: 54-16
GOTW1
La Tourette Syndrome (12-0) @ Amsterdam Affliction (10-2)
#1 vs. #2, with the added spice that an LTS win here seals the #1 spot for the playoffs. No doubt Amsterdam are going to be giving it all against us to try and bring us back into the following pack, whilst making sure they don't slip into the clutches of Bath and Evil, who both have very winnable games this week.
Actual: LTS 37-7 - we roll into the playoffs as #1 seeds! This was a big game for us and although we rode our luck with turnovers at times, we won the yardage/possession battle and deserved the win. Given that our OC wasn't able to properly gameplan for this one either, I think there's more to come from us! Amsterdam have now slipped to 4th in the league and need to beat Bath to make any further progression back up the league.
GOTW2
The Evil Empire (9-3) @ Belfast Commandos (6-6)
Both teams have plenty at stake here...Evil need the win to remain with in the group chasing LTS (and if results go their way they could very possibly claim the #2 spot), whilst Belfast need to keep their good run going to challenge for the last couple of playoff spots. This one will be close, and if the Empire aren't on the top of the game then Belfast could spring yet another surprise result. However I think their playoff challenge officially ends here...sorry guys!
Prediction: Empire by 10.
Actual: Empire 25-24 - man that was a close game, and Belfast almost capitalised on the turnovers they forced. They weren't in the game for the 1st half pretty much but made sure they scored TDs whilst Empire only got FGs...they just couldn't hold out at the end. I must say though - what were Evil doing going for it on 4th and inches when a FG was easy...heart in the mouth football there! That rules Belfast out of the playoffs now.
Lyon Winemakers (6-6) @ Bjelasnica Red Star (5-7)
Although not impossible yet, looking at the fixtures I think Bjelasnica can forget about the playoffs this year...even with 4 wins I don't see Hamburg and Dresden picking up only one win in their final games. Therefore this game is all about whether Lyon can maintain their challenge for 8th place. I've been rather down on Lyon over the last few weeks as they've let their league position slip, but their team has a pretty decent core of players who can challenge the best when on their game (as proven by holding Amsterdam to 7 points). However I think we'll see the 8 teams who will be in the playoffs after this gameweek, with a surprise result here.
Prediction: Bjelasnica by 5.
Actual: Lyon 51-12 - this game looked pretty close on the yardage battle, then I looked at the fumble stats...6 fumbles, 4 being lost is no way to win a close game! It all happened in the 2nd half as well, especially that 4th quarter...I'm sure the bosses at Red Star were very unhappy watching that!! All credit to Lyon though - this was the first time they're really dominated this season and with three winnable games left have kept themselves just about in the playoff race. It'll be tough, but they might just creep into 8th.
D-Town Bushwalkers (4-8) @ Team Perkis (8-4)
The only reason this is so high is because of the mismatches later on...I've really messed up with Perkis's predictions this season but this one should be a pretty simple win for them - D-Town will be stuck in 12th after this one.
Prediction: Perkis by 50.
Actual: Perkis 66-7 - looks like the one D-Town score came about after the blowout sim adjustment came in, otherwise this game was about as one sided as they come. Very impressive defensive effort by Perkis (16 sacks, 3 INTs) which they'll need to continue if they're going to be keeping their lofty position in the league until the end of the season...certainly a very tough final three games for them.
Stockholm Meatballs (3-9) @ Warsaw Wolves (8-4)
Someone has spiked Stockholm's drinks over the last four games, and I predicted they would only finish with 3 wins. I stand by that here...the Wolves will ease to a comfortable win here.
Prediction: Warsaw by 42.
Actual: Warsaw 62-6 - Warsaw join Perkis at 9-4 and within reach of the home playoff spots with another comfortable win. Stockholm were unable to continue with their good form of late and once again it was turnovers that made the score very one-sided...3 INTs being the culprit this time. Of the last three games, Warsaw have a very good shout of winning all of them (with only the Bath game their major worry), which would put them at least on the same level as the Bees and in the easier home playoff slots. That will be very interesting next week.
Rome Titans (1-11) @ Dresden Demons (7-5)
An easy win for Dresden here...cementing their playoff spot. Rome should pick up win #2 next week.
Prediction: Dresden by 66.
Actual: Dresden 65-10 - although they sit 7th, I've no doubt that Dresden will be in the mid spots for the playoffs, with 2 probably wins and a possible win against the Empire still to go. I was slightly surprised that Rome competed so well to begin with, but Dresden just had too much strength in the end.
Plainview Bulldogs (1-11) @ Hamburg Parrots (7-5)
Plainview sit second last in the list again, with a big loss to Hamburg on the cards. If I can offer some advice, make sure their HB is covered!
Prediction: Hamburg by 87.
Actual: Hamburg 68-17 - the powerback took the plaudits this game, as Hamburg literally ran over the Bulldogs D. I'd still be worried if I had feathers that 17 points were conceded and almost 350yds were given up, and although I've harped on about it all season this will be their downfall in the POs.
Bath Killer Bees (9-3) @ Parts Unknown (0-12)
I wonder if Bath will beat the 145 points LTS put up against Parts? I'll bet they'll beat the 2 points conceded anyway!
Prediction: Bath by 100+.
Actual: Bath 98-6 - challenge failed on both counts!
Saying that, they still jumped up to 2nd in the league so I can't be too harsh can I!
PREDICTION RECORD: 6-1 - my surprise game prediction didn't quite work this time...
Season record: 54-16
