29-6 ongoing...
Sorry these are short today...really short on time at the mo, important meeting tomorrow I've still not done the reading for
GOTW1
Dresden Demons (5-2) vs Hamburg Parrots (5-2)
Prediction: Dresden by 7.
Actual: Dresden 66-23 - 18.6yds/pass...WFT happened there? Have Dresden revealed what the weakness is in the Parrots defense? Either way this result means the Parrots are unlikely to be in the top 4 playoff positions and will do well to go beyond the first round. Dresden really bounced back well from the (slightly) surprising defeat to Warsaw with a massive win and could really press on the remainder of this season for the top spots.
GOTW2
Bath Killer Bees (5-2) vs Lyon Winemakers (5-2)
Prediction: Bath by 14.
Actual: Bath 34-13 - in hindsight this shouldn't have been a game of the week, even though the two teams were 5-2. The score should have probably favoured Bath a little more (and probably would have removing the rather tidy KR for TD) and I'm not going to talk anymore about Bath's offense faultering sligthly with their defense. Dare I say it, but Lyon could be the one team out of the nine that miss out on the playoffs this season...with tough games against Amsterdam, Dresden and Perkis still to go, I worry about them.
Team Perkis (4-3) vs Amsterdam Affliction (7-0)
Prediction: Amsterdam by 17.
Actual: Perkis 34-24 - UPSET CITY! I've got to apologise to everyone from Perkis here...I've seriously underestimated you guys up until this point, and I really thought after the Parrots defeat that you'd have a pretty hard time against Amsterdam. I've a new respect now. Onto the game - after crushing Amsterdam's running game, it seems Perkis were able to get enough pressure on Amsterdam's QB to knock his aura of invincibility (just about) to give them a chance to win the game. On offense, they were able to pretty much run on the Amsterdam defense at will.
This is a pretty important time for Amsterdam now...the Dresden game will be a very tough one for them and a loss there could suck them into the chasing pack if they're not careful. Definitely one of the GOTW next time....
Rome Titans (0-7) vs Plainview Bulldogs (0-7)
Prediction: Rome by 35.
Actual: Rome 48-14 - out by 1! I had this game so high as it was the chance for one of the 0-7 teams to break their duck. Both offenses had a chance to show what they could do, and that passing game of Rome's could be something they build their game around next season...very nice figures there. Rome could press on now and pick up another 4 wins in the second half of the season...that should be the aim. Plainview should be looking at Parts to get their only win.
Warsaw Wolves (4-3) vs D-Town Bushwalkers (4-3)
Prediction: Warsaw by 28.
Actual: Warsaw 59-10 - this loss could be the start of a pretty ugly run for D-Town...they have had a very easy first half of the season, and haven't really impressed all that much with that. Warsaw have dragged themselves back into the battle for 8th spot with Lyon, and that game in a couple of gameweeks should settle that debate - wonder which Warsaw will turn up?
Bjelasnica Red Star (3-4) vs Belfast Commandos (2-5)
Prediction: Belfast by 5.
Actual: Belfast 23-22 - if these two teams weren't so low down in the league then this game would have been far higher in the rankings...it was a close one to call in the predictions and even closer in the sim! In the end you've got to say that Red Star's inability to convert in the redzone was the difference - FGs of 22, 28.5 and 34.5yds aren't enough in the close games to get you the W, and that last drive by Belfast showed that their offense is alive! I can't see either team fighting for places above 10th though.
The Evil Empire (5-2) vs Parts Unknown (0-7)
Prediction: Empire by 103.
Actual: Empire 87-6 - not quite as big a win as I thought, but still there's not a lot else that I can say.
La Tourette Syndrome (7-0) vs Stockholm Meatballs (0-7)
Actual: 119-3 - sorry Stockholm, though you'll pick up some wins in the second half of the season.
PREDICTION RECORD: 6-1 this week, for a 35-7 total.
