Texan's Week 8 Picks

Current Record: 98-14

Get the spandex and a whole damn can of Panteen, it's hair band time.

Naga

NBA Jam (7-0) v Saigon (7-0)
Bam, here we go. I ain't lookin' for "Nothin' but a good time" from this game. This should be a showdown, so "Welcome to the Jungle" NBA and Saigon. I am interested to see line versus line because you know both teams are going to keep something in reserve for the more important matchup in the playoffs. Even so it's hard to see this being anything but a close game and I think it may be important to Saigon to keep their streak intact and to beat their first elite Naga team. Saigon 38, NBA 30.

Monks (7-0) v Thai (3-4)
Thai got a visit from "Dr. Feelgood" last time out and are now back in the playoff picture. You know the Monks want to "Jump" all over Thai early and not let them get any momentum rolling in the game. Which Thai shows up? The one that beat up PDP and took Saigon to the limit or that "other" Thai? Monks 30, Thai 27.

SLS (7-0) v The Blue (3-4)
SLS gets maybe their biggest test so far but still has managed to avoid every elite team to date. Their message to the Blue: we're gonna "Rock You Like a Hurricane". 7-0 is like heaven to SLS but you know the Blue: "Heaven's on Fire". We'll see. SLS 35, The Blue 17.

Tibet (6-1) v CMM (1-6)
Two teams headed in opposite directions clash here. Tibet brings their "Symphony of Destruction" to bear on CMM who probably just hopes to score "Seventeen" in this one. Tibet 56, CMM 17.

Bacolod (4-3) v SCSK (2-5)
Bacolod feels like they drew the "Ace of Spades" this season with their first winning record at this point of the season in Pro and SCSK is still trying to show they have "What it Takes" in pro after falling on hard times recently. Which one will bear out this time? Bacolod 27, SCSK 17.

PDP (3-4) v Rumrunners (0-7)
The Rumrunners are probably wondering what's going on after scoring a total of 27 points thus far this season, most of that against CMM and are feeling like a "Rag Doll". PDP is in rebuilding mode but hoping to be "Back in Black" soon. I admire the Rumrunners spirit and desire to be here. PDP 37, Rumrunners 3.

Bali (3-4) v PPW (0-7)
Bali is part of that third tier of teams sitting at 3-4 and they're hoping a win prevents a "Runaway" by the rest of those teams in the group. PPW has a plan for the future, so just "Turn Up the Radio" and drown out the sounds of Bali's band as they score. Bali 110, PPW 10.

HKH (1-6) v Mekong (1-6)
Time are tough for these two old school franchises. HKH brought their "Bad Reputation" back to town but to little effect thus far while Mekong is saying "Wait" until next season. Who wins this one to virtually ensure they're safe from relegation? Mekong 27, HKH 17.

garuda

Krungthep (7-0) v Lampang (5-2)
Lampang has made a very nice showing thus far in their inaugural pro season but they have yet to face an elite team--until now. Krungthep is "Back For More" from the WL and I'm pretty sure Lampang is just "Livin' on a Prayer" if they think they'll win this one. Krungthep 52, Lampang 17.

Bangalore (7-0) v Lucid (3-4)
Lucid is hanging in there but they have had problems with the elite teams on their schedule. Unfortunately for them Bangalore is one of those elite teams. I definitely don't think Lucid will be "Running Scared", but it's a "Shot in the Dark" that they win this one. Bangalore 42, Lucid 24.

LSP (7-0) v RSR (1-6)
Man RSR just can't get a break and now they see the full power of the dark side, err, pro and it's "Bad Medicine". I'm pretty sure LSP runs away with this one and that is just "The Way It is". LSP 56, RSR 16.

Tet (7-0) v BKK (3-4)
Tet finally exorcised their Oakland demons and now are "Burning Like a Flame" through garuda. BKK is struggling but still in contention. They have beaten who they're supposed to beat while getting destroyed by elite teams, so they're going to have to exercise a little "Patience" here. Tet 56, BKK 20.

Buffalo (5-2) v Danang (2-5)
Danang has looked a lot better than their record and they're "Gettin' Better", but they're another team that struggles against top competition. Oops, Buffalo is top competition. Look for the Rampage to "Get it On". Buffalo 37, Danang 20.

Sweatshop (3-4) v Sydney (3-4)
Sydney is one of those teams that likes to f with mah pick record, so they just need to quite that "Monkey Business". The Sweatshop is starting to come on strong and I like them as a second half of the season spoiler and I can see them breaking "Free" of that 3-4 pack. Sweatshop 30, Sydney 14.

Singapore (3-4) v Ottawa (1-6)
Singapore is just hanging around and staying in the picture but you know Ottawa is looking to leave them "High n Dry" with a win. If Singapore goes down they want it to be in a "Blaze of Glory" and I think this will be just the kind of even matchup that may let that happen. Ottawa 30, Singapore 27.

Dharma (CPU) v MMJ (0-7)
Don't look directly at this game as it may cause blindness. MMJ may be down but "It's So Easy" to "Rock Rock" Dharma. MMJ 150, Dharma 0.

Thanks! btw, after tomorrow's games I'll release my overall SEAPL top 10 for mid-season. I normally wouldn't do it because of conflict of interest, but since PDP is not close to that level right now, not a problem...

I wouldn't go that far but I hope it's closer than Texan thinks.

nice writeup!

if the Lionfish can hang 17 points on us I'll be impressed. We've given up just 19 points this season.

I'm not going to try to trivialize your defense, because i think you have the Best D in Garuda, and i don't think Lampang will score 17 pts either, but i think you've played exactly 1 playoff team... albeit a thrashing of the Thai Fighters.

Hey who says only their offense can score? Trying to give them a little credit for their good start.
