^ Well, it does prevent fumbles, so in a sense, it does help to not 'drop balls'.

But as for catching, no.

Actually carrying helps prevent passes knocked loose so it would help improve your drops.

This.

Pretty much catch > strength > carrying. Vision helps you see the ball coming.

Here's a few of Bort's quotes that I've copied and pasted in my team forum.

Carrying
- I'm not sure I like the idea of changing the formula to use catching instead of carrying. It makes carrying MUCH more worthless and carrying FAR more important for WR's (and it's already going to be a fairly high stat), while right now you actually need some carrying to avoid dropping the ball all the time when getting hit. It would make it a stat to just completely ignore for just about every WR.

Catching/Dropping Passes/Defending Passes
- More catching, more vision, with higher amounts needed the faster you are.
Failing rolls against your catching score will make you slow down when you catch the ball, while succeeding will keep you going. This is assuming the QB leads you well, of course.

- The CB has to fight you for the ball. Stick hands gives you a better catching roll. Therefore sticky hands helps you fight the CB for the ball. Make-a-sense now?

- Once you've caught the ball (PD vs catch), the defender, if he can react in time, has a chance to smack you and try to knock it loose. That's a separate roll.

so when you get passes deflected, it's a combination of catching and vision being too low?

When you get passes deflected it's a combination of random number generation, your catching ability and your opponent's deflecting ability. Mostly the latter.

Imo the best answer is that if you're getting deflected a lot it's because of one of three reasons:
1. Your build is young and not rounded out enough and CB ALGs>WR ALGs. It takes a while for most WR builds to become effective given the way building methods work (no balance until late) and the simple fact that a CB's job is pretty easy while a QB and WR's job is difficult.

2. You're a speed build but you're too slow, so capable CBs can keep up with you while being better at winning deflection rolls than you are at catching. Usually this means you just have an inefficient build.

3. You're some sort of balanced/possession build that's lacking the vision jumping and strength to make effective use of your catching (either that or you didn't raise catching high enough for a slower build, which would make you stupid and deserving of bad performance)

4. You're outmatched. QQ
