Anyone care to take a stab at how they think the upcoming changes to the game will impact Pee-Wee? IE what tactics will change and which templates will become more popular?

It means that everything that you 'knew' from last season has to be questioned again. I wish that he would tell us about these changes BEFORE we create our players for the next season. Being able to target progressions would have probably changed up some of my builds a bit more to focus on WR1, WR2, and WR3 specific builds.

Oh well... there is a lot to experiment with in the preseason. Hopefully we get another game in preseason before the first regular season starts.

Sounds like people will be running outside even more now

Except that they fixed the QB spy and the flat zones, also they added they 'go straight to your zone' feature... so it depends on how good the TE and FB blocking schemes are.

I am not sure how outside rushing will play out. With the better blocking of the TE and FB and the better pulling of the Guards, there is potential for better outside rushing. But on the flip side, with that new "zone immediate" option, I think most defenses will use that on your FS/SS instead of blitzing them. Thus it remains to be seen how well the new zones defend against the better outside blocking. Also, will be interesting to see how the new zones work against QB rollouts.

What I do think will happen is that HB and FB short passes will be harder to do because of those new zones, but this might open up longer HB/FB passes as some defenses might think the new flat zones will be enough to contain them.

I also think a new hybrid QB will become popular, one that can both pass and run. They wont be as fast or agile as a pure rushing QB, but they only need to be faster than the DL. They wont have as good of a throwing arm as a pure passing QB, but will be able to pass decently enough with the bonus to Pee-Wee passing. This new breed of QB will be set to scramble often, so defenses will have to employ this new QB Spy feature to keep them in check.

I think you will see a lot more inside rushing TD's due to better down-field blocking. Remember that they said Guards will block down-field if they don't have anyone to block, so the 3-4 defense might become weaker against inside rushing.

I experimented with 2 dual-threats last season, and 1 was on a team Gerr DCed, so he got to see it work. I completely agree that some of these changes would benefit such a build.

http://goallineblitz.com/game/full_player_stats.pl?player_id=1827067&playoffs=0 (used as a true dual-threat)
http://goallineblitz.com/game/full_player_stats.pl?player_id=1795372&playoffs=0 (used as a backup passer)

With audibles, I could see 2 other Pee Wee builds with potential: a HB geared towards rollout and pass blocking (which could make dual-threats even more dangerous) and a game managing QB.

"Improvements to elusive running style, including running out of bounds frequency
- Add a balance loss effect when being faked by a juke or head fake, making tackling harder after fake"

A typical "3rd down back" might be a lot more effective this year, typically you see a power HB, and a speed HB. But a high agility HB could do some good things.

I'm not sure how much better the flats will be against the pitches than they already are. I guess you might be able to get creative and use the 'straight to zone' feature to basically time when the SS gets there, but then he's either running straight forward or to the right meaning he better have pretty good vision/agility to make the read and turn once he gets to his spot. Currently, blitzing is more effective, and I don't see that changing. I do think that feature may be useful in things like a 4-4 where you need the LOLB to stop a play like the WI hb toss.

Most of these features, you really need to see to know how good they are, like the te/fb blocking, the OG's going down field or the qb spy. It's possible these changes will be great at the upper levels, but actually perform worse at the PW levels (this happens quite a bit). For example, if FB's & TE's miss a lot of vision checks, it could get pretty ugly. Or if the Guards running forward to get the MLB are really slow, they may allow somebody else to run right by them while they're trying to chase a LB who is a few yards away (where previously they'd sit in the hole and catch the guy who now runs by them). A lot of this stuff doesn't get tested with low level players.

I think the biggest changes will be in the passing game. It sounds like they've slowed reaction time, but countered that with higher INT/PD's. It's always interesting to see how a NERF intended for super-human DB's in the World League affect our level of players. I have nightmares of our DB's just standing there as a 20yard pass gets thrown 2 yards away from them and they never move.

Couple those passing changes with the new ability to create the QB's progression, and I think some good OC's could do very well with a passing game. But on the flip side, some bad OC's could end up throwing a LOT of int's by throwing into coverage.

It's all a wait and see game. Those who adapt quickest have the advantage.

I'm hopeful guys will stop running out of bounds for no reason, but they've tried to fix that multiple times with no luck.

Do we see many jukes & pump fakes before lvl 8 CEQ? I don't think you see many pump fakes. I'm not sure if the HB's really juke or not...I think they do (and that's why you see the defender suddently stop or slow down), but I'm not sure if that's the same thing as the SA 'juke'.

If defenders in a zone were too powerful in the past, and I've bailed on using a zone d two seasons ago, I don't expect them to get any better.

What I would like fixed at the Pee Wee level is to have them fix the omnipotent defenders in man coverage.

If you set someone to man cover HB or TE or WR2 and the HB and TE are both blocking, the defender moves almost instantly towards the WR. At this level you would think that there would be all kinds of failed vision checks in seeing if the HB or TE were running a route or blocking, but they don't. They just head straight for WR2. It makes a max-protect useless at the Pee Wee level because you just end up with triple or quadruple coverage on your WRs.

QBs are now able to temporarily blind the defense with "lasers" making it easier to complete passes!

Ahhhhhhhhh..........so that's what that new LASER sa is!!! got it!

I'm guessing that despite all of the changes, things won't be all that different in pee wee, perhaps until the playoffs. The sim will prolly look different tho

Not to be seen as just looking after the offense, Bort will be release a new VA for DT's [mostly to counter/payback the overpowered 'Hard Count' VA last season] called

'Tube-O-Icyhot' - DT's are given a tube of Icyhot to put in the offensive lineman's jocks, guaranteed to get those big guys jumping. Each level adds a +3% chance to drawing a false start penalty.
