If that was your first DT, that's a pretty good job

Yeah my very first. He never did crap, and I've lost all hope at improvements being made.

He wasn't even past 400 days yet...

Need the flex and since D-line sucks (especially my guy) it's just not worth keeping.

He would have actually been pretty good at this point if you had created him in season 2 or 3 and he looked like that at his level.

He's basically a season 5 build though and standards for a DT to produce have gone up quite a bit as both OL and DL have improved.

IMO - a DT made today will need a minimum raw agility + strength score of 180 (220 with equipment) by the time they hit 60.

so what's a good split of EQ then? Get agility up to 100 and then start putting it in strength til that's 100 and then speed to 100?

Pretty much now you have to take strength to 77 or 81, then take agility to 77 or 81.
If you want a pass rusher, you are going to need to completely ignore tackling. If you want a DT that is good against the run, then you won't be able to have enough speed to be a good pass rusher.

An end build for a non NT is going to need to look like

Run stuffer
Strength: 140 (+42)
Agility: 90
Speed: 64
Tackling: 78
Stamina: 55
Vision: 69
Confidence: 55
4-8
9-9-1-1-1 (if NT, then you will need DLG, but will probably have to sacrifice some points elsewhere. Hopefully you are lucky enough to get DLG AEQ)

Pass Rusher
Strength: 120
Agility: 100
Speed: 100
Tackling: 45
Stamina: 55
Vision: 69
Confidence: 55
5-9-1-1-1
4-8-0-0-0
Then you will need FS, break block%, or other AE that helps you on pass rush in some other way.

not too far away from my NT, though i have a high number in DLG and a lot less vision. didn't seem to hurt to have less vision on my NT. occupy the blockers in front of you = not much VIS needed.

He is pretty good for right now, (DT started in season 3) although there are definitely better.

In 3 or 4 seasons though, this will be considered below average for a NT at his level.

This is probably a n00b question but what is the reason for taking agility so high if you're making a run-stopping DT? Wouldn't str/tkl/jmp be more important to keep from moving backwards and increase your tackling range to close holes?

Also, how does a run-stopping NT build differ from a run-stopping DT build?

Agility is a huge part of the break block roll and a huge part of the tackle roll. It helps in both aspects.

A run-stopping NT is different from a run-stopping DT in that he has points in Defensive Line General at the expense of other attributes/SAs.

That I didn't know. So is this logic the same if you're making a containment DE as well? I understand that neither is going to get a lot of sacks but "W"s are more important than stats anyway.

And most likely less speed too, no ?
