With the introduction of sportsmanship and the adjustments to XP announced, I had a quick calculation of the median level of players in BBB#9.

As of 7.45 am Eastern the median level of players in this division is 12. Therefore Recommended max level should be 20. At the moment. It can only go up...

It should be noted this only applies to NEW SIGNINGS.

Anyone who is already on their team, boosts, resigns, plays, etc will most likely not be affected in any way. It's only FA's that would be an issue.

Well..there goes our plan for getting GM control of the Mustangs and gutting that team by sending all their players to the Baggers!

So no-one should sign more than 6 players above level 20... or one above level 25 until the median level of the league increases...

Its funny how bort says bringing level 20's down to a d league to boost someones stats. BBB9 will put the smack down on all the new Africa teams and just about every new expansion team to the game.............Winners live in the bbb9

I think the 8 will be cut down to 5-6. Making level 18 players the first ones being above the median.

This is really easy to circumvent. Just don't boost your higher level players until the playoffs, no XP hits are taken then and when a lot of other players boost at the beginning of each season player will be back under the median.

I only see this affecting brand new leagues where most teams have 4-12 level players and one or two have 13-20.

BBB9 won't see any affects from this I don't think.

Honestly I think the rule was put in to discourage ringer teams like the Elves and others. Here, we all started out the same and looks like the moves everyone made in the off season were just to fill holes or even out the roster, so like Brick said I don't think we'll ever even notice the rule.

1. The penalty is incurred when they sign. If they are already on the team, there is no penalty. They can boost out of the recommended range without penalty.

2. Each team has a few "mentor" freebies that won't be penalized. So, your case where you have two or three high level players, it won't really matter.

3. Agree completely. This is a non factor for us. I think someone would have to sign more than a few level 19 players to be affected. Even then, they'd have to sign half a league full of level 19's to really see the hammer dropped, which I think is fair.

Oh ya...most of the teams here would rule any of the new leagues. (aside from the ones built via "gut and dash")

This new rule sounds really really complicated with all the penalties and bonuses and such. Hopefully I never even run into it as Im not claiming to understand it fully.

In brief:

"Sportsmanship" is a new attribute. It starts at 100% and will usually stay there.
Game XP is adjusted by the sportsmanship factor
If you contravene the spirit of the game, it can go down.

Nothing to worry about.

Damn, I was really considering contravening the spirit of the game.

Of course it all changes today anyway. Some teams boost, some don't, some have a few boosting and others waiting, etc. I still think this rule won't have any affect on us even when the xp penalties are implemented.

That's an estimate. My figure was accurate as of yesterday. Today however, as Doger points out, people have started levelling, so who knows where it will end up?

but the link above from bort is 6 days old and says 10.94 average. How do you explain that? Your point makes sense except if that is true bort's posted average would be much lower.
