I'm looking for input on an offense that would be built purely for running with the following depth chart modifications:

the offense would basically look like this:

TE ____ OT G C C G TE _____ TE
__________ QB
________ FB HB

All WR spots on the depth chart would be filled with TEs. The offensive line would have a C playing at RG and a G playing at ROT. I feel like the power running game could be really brutal with this set up, and of course outside runs and screens would be scary with the TEs blocking on the outside.

Has anyone tried anything like this? Any input on how bad the out of position penalties would be?

Out Of Position Penalty would make the TE's ineffective imo. Same with Center in RG spot, and RG in RoT spot. I don't think it'd work.

It wouldn't make the TE's ineffective, but it def. would make me way better than Reg. WR's out there.

I agree with this. You can build the WR's to be like TEs but the OPP would kill it

Just build WR's with huge block focus. For that matter, build every position with the proper player and run block focus big. Roll or recruit heavy players too.

Not sure about TE's at WR, or Guards at OT, but Centers at Guard works just fine. In fact, I like Centers over Guards because of the automatic level-ups C's get. I've got a level 46 center that has played nothing but guard his entire career and performs just fine.

My G has played at both OT slots off and on for several seasons in AAA. No big deal

I've played a C at TE on running plays and works pretty well. You can tell he is taking a hit, but better than my using my non-blocking TEs.

I tried exactly what you are proposing Season 8 w/ the cobra kai. I had run blocking WR's, run blocking everything, a rushing QB, and it didn't work out.

Yeah, but he'd be using good dots.

The fact is, you *cannot* have a pure running offense at the higher levels of the game (and believe me I have tried )

If you don't have any sort of respectable passing threat, you will simply be crushed by good teams.

My two pesos ...

My team is in a level 28 cloud .... all the top teams are runing 70%+ and killing everyone else. I tried custom D plays ... moving the D line over and moving an LB ... strong side blitz... 0 or 1 man cover w/ SS up ... you name it ... running was VERY effective and the teams didn't need to do much ... (like your TE plans)... they rotated 2 or 3 HB's though.

Below level 35 or so, passing sucks...especially if your WRs are all slow build speed types with 85 natural speed and agility and 15 stamina/catching/ etc.

You need a good d-line and LBs at the lower levels to stop the run.
