By the time Jay Cutler retires, the Willis Tower (former Sears Tower) will be renamed the Cutler Tower in tribute to the only guy with a chance to eclipse the greatness of Michael Jordan. This guy has the greatest gun in this town since Al Capone. I think I cried during the game, the run of egregious Bears QBs made Cutler look like Farvre during the MVP years. The Bear WR Ashmudishoushasidouce or whatever the flunk his name is, could be the first guy in the league to have his name wrap around to the front of his jersey.

Comparing Cutler to Jordan = fail.

Chicago hasn't had a Pro Bowl QB in 20+ years. They did however have one of the 50 greatest NBA players of all time not named Michael Jordan in the past 20 years. Which one seems more important now?

Michael Jordan transends Basketball and Chicago.... Jay Cutler is some QB who's never taken a team to the playoffs lol

McDonalds transcends food and Chicago, it is a global icon. I can guarantee if you give a starving Somalian a piece of white bread they will think it is the best thing ever, and not give to fucks about McDonalds. Now you understand the QB situation over the past 20 years in Chicago.

Sorry, but Jordan's greatness isn't diminished just because Chicago has had other great bball players. That's ridiculous. Greatness depends on *gasp* how great you are at what you do. And Jordan clearly reached a level of basketball (best player arguably of all time) that Cutler will never reach in football.

Your argument makes more sense with respect to whether Cutler will be more APPRECIATED than Jordan, not whether he will be greater. But either way I think you're crazy.

1 Super Bowl for Chicago will > 6 NBA Championships. Nobody parked their asses in -10 degree weather to see Jordan win a championship. If Cutler is able to win one, he bumps ahead of Jordan.

Maybe in how appreciated he is, but not in how great he is. Unless you're contending that Cutler will be the best QB in the history of the NFL. Are you?

I'm not talking greatness, no one in the history of sports can compare to Jordan as a competitor. I'm talking about where Chicagoans will rank their heros. If Cutler leads the Bears to a Super Bowl win, he will be rated higher in Chicago than Jordan. Look at Ditka, not a hall of fame coach, but is revered in Chicago. Remember those Super Fan skits from SNL back in the day, those weren't made in NY, those were honed from Chris Farleys days in Chicago listening to all the Bears fans reminisce about the 1 SB they had one. If Cutler leads the Bears to an SB win, he will achieve immortality in this town.

the argument doesnt even make sense as far as who will be appreciated more...

who is appreciated more? Jim MacMahon or Micheal Jordan? Pretty easy case here. Heck you could throw Walter Payton, Richard Dent, Leslie Frazier, and Mike Ditka into the mix and it still wouldn't equal the appreciation Jordan received and continues to receive from Chicago. Altho Ditka might be able to bring it close as he is one of 2 guys to win a superbowl as a player, head coach, and asst. coach. Also pretty impressive really.

Unless Cutler decides that he is also a 2 sport athlete and pitches/hits the Chicago Cubs to a World Series...one super bowl will not put him into any category besides maybe being one of the best Chicago QB's there was...which is pretty unimpressive really.

As far as using the comparison that Jordan had another top 50 player of all time playing with him. That top 50 player never brought Chicago nor any other team a ring without Jordan. And Chicago has several pro bowl athletes on their team. Some of which may go down as top 50 in their respected positions. Chicago has had zero top 50 Guards ever aside from Jordan if thats the way you want to play it.

Actually, I like this thread Mob-6. Cutler looked fucking SICK vs the Giants(it's preseason and doesn't mean anything, I know) BUT I get what you are saying 100%. Chicago has NEVER had a franchise QB unless you count Sid Luckman. If Cutler wins a Super Bowl for the Bears he will become a legend...although I don't think he will topple Jordan with just 1 ring, I could see it happening. Bears fans are that hungry for a real QB and a Super Bowl....if your not a fan you really just can't understand the QB misery we've dealt with.

If Cutler wins more than 1 Super Bowl, he will be immortalized as Chicago's greatest athlete ever most likely. I also feel Payton and Ditka are greater than Jordan for Chicago fans, but that could just be me. I've always felt from what i've read that Chicago is a football town. When I went out there, I got that same feeling. People would talk baseball(it was on) but if you even mentioned the Bears the baseball game was forgotten. Maybe I just got the right fans tho (I HATE baseball)
