the party and hoo-rahs of week 1 are over, as we wave bye to our interconference opposition and embark on the business end of the GLB schedule, the 15 game round robin that is utterly meaningless except for bragging rights.
at least once you get to this level, losers can no longer go up to the holy grail of the World Pro League.
with all this said, here's the GOTW
Spokane Privateers at Minnesota Marauders
Peeps have been trying to tell me that AAA 2 is a whole lot better than AAA 1, and Spokane, the gold trophy champs, had one of the most impressive wins by a Pro rookie in week 1, with only the Northwest Nighthawks able to claim differently. Minnesota is the veteran team of veterans in USA Pro, able to tell us what it was like to play the San Antonio Saints, Galaxy Aces, and whatnot. They haven't missed the playoffs since S3. IMO Minnesota gets the W as they look to be on a different level than the new arrivals. 34-7 Marauders
Laredo and San Diego
that was Pro? the ease at which we destroyed the Richey Royals surprised me. I had the pbp speed at 10/10 even before the first quarter ended. Even though they missed the playoffs, San Diego went 9-7 in S10 and made a name for themselves up here.
Lincoln and Chicago
in a GOTW contender, Lincoln comes off of their ***O*** upset to face a wounded animal in the Hedgehogs. I wasn't expecting them to lose 44-10 (okay, second thought, maybe I was), but they might be facing an even tougher foe here in Lincoln. WiSe's Chicago comeback needs to look ahead to weeks 4-9, or else that may spell the beginning of the end for another proud Pro franchise. Lincoln 34-30, but a close game either way will still be an upset, but not an UPSET (I always capitalize it)
Wolfpack and Hounds
another GOTW contender, both teams got big W's against fellow Pro veterans. The gauntlet has been laid down; all pressure is on Washington to run the table and show the World League what they're missing out on. Nashville has none on the other hand. They'd like to win, but don't really terribly need to. If they do, some people are gonna be terribly pissed. They certainly can however. 56-24 Wolfpack imo
Thunder vs. Diabolicals
Timps got blasted out of the Hazy/Addicts by the Monmouth Evil Monkeys in round 1, so their full attention is back on USA Pro. Meanwhile Dread City's quoting Nietzsche on their owner's note... their demise will be hastened by a series of beatings in the West. Timps will be one of many. 42-10 Timps.
Battalion vs. KKAR
one of the more creative trash talking teams in a while snuck a victory over the South Otto Fragile Porcelain Mice, while New Jersey did likewise on Columbus. I have to like the Kamper Adventure Rentals (WTF kind of name is that?). Anyways Alaska is a whole lot better than N.J., so KKAR it is 45-21
Portland vs. Northwest
it's crosstown rivalry time, and both new Pro teams faced veterans with different results. Northwest upset the Alpine Golfers, while the Aftershocks got beat down by the Blaze. Portland gets this one, but I'm not sure I'd call it an upset. 49-30
Carson City vs. West Scranton
yeah... really. This might be the only game Carson City wins, so they better do it with style

... maybe could have, but maybe not, but at the least was certainly going to go with a completely different offensive approach .. oh well
