Formerly: Santorini Inferno & Al Qahira Inferno
The team was founded by Delirium Trigger late in Season 8. That season a group of exceptional agents banded together with a group of players that were already created in a forum. After a few weeks of discussion and build strategizing, the Inferno was born.
Season 9 - In the inaugural season of Inferno football, we were placed in the Alpha Conference of Western Europe League BBB #12. That season we were already a dominant team winning our first 8 games and outscoring our opponents 1203-9 before we ran into the greatest Cap 13 team ever assembled. Legends of Time http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=290 was a 3 1/2 season super slow built juggernaut. They walloped us good. We recovered nicely outgunning our final seven opponents 1235-9.
(15-1) We headed into the playoffs hoping to make a run at Legends of Time. We dispatched of our first two opponents 142-6 and 108-9 before falling victim to L.O.T. once again in the Conference Finals.
Our Final Record was 17-2, and in a doubleheader of scrimmages we swept Grocery Baggers
http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=586020 and http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=586161 to claim our fictional Undisputed 3rd place in the League Crown.
Season 10 - Season of destiny! With no super slow build teams in the path to the Minor League Level 21 #6 Crown, the Inferno made a crushing run toward the title. Through the first 15 games of the season, we outclassed all team by a combined score of 2570-29 including 11 shutouts. Our 15th game of the season was a letdown of epic proportions. We lost 44-10 to a very solid Vatican City Cardinals squad http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=621158.
It was the 2nd shake-up the team received in a short period of time. Delirium Trigger had decided to sell the team at the end of Season 10, so the Inferno was likely to disband. nsz8, the special teams coach, stepped up and purchased the team around midseason. p@nda as he is now called felt to blame for the late season hiccup, but it was a team effort in defeat.
After hosting a pair of decisive victories in the ever-expanding Caldera Bowl, the Inferno headed off to the Vatican for an epic battle of 17-1 teams. The Inferno burned down the city taking a 41-7 win from the Cardinals http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=694047 , for the teams first Silver Cup.
The League Championship game was more of the same as the Inferno went on the road to battle the Claremont Cocks in Cocks Stadium http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=695314 . The Inferno were led by their dynamic returns specialist (ST MVP) Silver Surfer http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=1306539 on the way to the first Gold Cup in team history 52-6.
Season 11 - Santorini came into the season hell bent on repeating the glory from season 10 but ran into a formidable cuddly foe in the Baton Rouge Bangaroos. Call it Jet lag, but in the regular season the Inferno was blasted by the Roos 38-0 and wound up completing their 3rd consecutive 15-1 regular season. In the playoffs Santorini and Baton Rouge locked up for the Conference's Silver Cup with the Inferno falling short by a score of 9-6. The lesson's were learned and for the 2nd time in three season the Inferno finished 17-2 with a pair of losses to the Gold Cup Champions.
Season 12 - Santorini finally finished a season unblemished, but felt the wrath of playoff defeat once again falling to The Disturbed in the playoffs 17-13 http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=898524 in the Conference Championship game. In the first meeting the Inferno won the game 31-29 http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=850268 but the toughest regular season test came in week 15 against the Tarsus Tigers http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=850264 . At the end of the season Santorini was 18-1 and trophy-less once again.
Season 12 was a painful reminder of how tough the sim can be to even one of the toughest non-SSB teams in the minors. At the end of the season Santorini was pegged to join the newly formed Cap 46 ranks, but opted against that decision and went straight out of the Caps.
Season 13 - The Inferno was bumped to AA for the Season after taking one of Bort's early promotions. It was a pretty rocky road and the Inferno was either on the delivering end of a blowout or taking a fairly good stomping for the first time in our Franchise history. We were in the playoff hunt down the stretch but lost a h2h game with Dallas Chiefs http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=922011 17-13 that ended our consecutive playoff appearance streak. All told we managed to finish .500 at 8-8 but the learning curve was not quite as tough on us as we expected it may have been. We made due without coordinators when we lost our DC to inactivity and our OC due to an unexpected retirement from gameplanning jobs.
The disappointment of missing the playoffs came with a slight bonus, the team would remain back in AA for another season, but with an added bonus of already having suffered any Chemistry woes from player losses.
Season 14 - After a lackluster (8-8) performance in the Inferno's first season in the ranks of EEAA the team decided to move out of EE and try their luck in African AA. The decision was a painful one, but with the number of agents on the team with strong ties to EE and WE the move was made from Santorini to Al Qahira (Cairo). At the halfway point of the season the Inferno, sporting some new digs, are undefeated and have already matched the win total of S13. The team still carries many of the original members of the Inferno, most of which were still Cap46 eligible at the beginning of the season, but hopefully the team as a whole can compete for another trophy.
Season 15 - The Inferno were back to their winning ways, but ran into a tough nut to crack in The Dead Presidents. Inferno finished the regular season (15-1) once again before falling in the Conference finals to TDP for their second loss of the season. It was the 3rd season in team history that the team finished (17-2) overall with both losses to the eventual League Champions. During the season, the owner of Windsor Nobles (20-0) in WEAAA and P@nda came together to decide to merge rosters and take the talents on to APL. The teams took on the name of Windsor Inferno Nobles at Santorini.
Season 16 - All the experts told Inferno that they would struggle as newbs in APL in Season 16. The team however raised up above expectations and locked down a #2 overall seed in Zeta despite a third consecutive loss at the hands of The Dead Presidents in the regular season. The team dropped games to Carthage Mad Clash and Swaziland Dachshunds during the regular season, but beat some perennial powers as well, including former WL team Windhoek White Rhinos and The Ghost Riders in the Sky by 20+ points.
In the playoffs the Inferno dropped a heartbreaker to Sons of Anubis 27-24 after winning the regular season matchup by just 2 points. The season was a smashing success as the coordinators became familiar with the nuances of Pro ball.
Season 17 & Beyond - Game changes such as the extended plateau and endgame boosts to 72 has the Inferno (WINS) in a great place for sustained winning. Look for Inferno to continue to play the role of underdogs as long as teams are willing to pretend we are just a nuisance.
