Welcome everyone to this 1st edition of SportsCenter and we will begin with some interviews! The 1st one who gladly accepted to talk with our host, Larry Jennings, is the owner of the Chocolate City Cha Chings, PierreThomas! Lets play this interview for you watching this thread
Larry: Hi Pierre! How is it going?
Pierre: Going as good as ever I guess.
Larry: How do you feel now that we are in the preseason?
Pierre: GLB has this excitement to it that starts around day 30 and extends all the way through the first few days of the offseason. Everyone is excited about the playoffs and the first few days of free agency. For a team owner this time of the season is usually the most work. Now that we are through this that work slows to boredom and the coordinators are the ones excited to try out the new sim. For me it is just an extremely long wait until day 4 when we play our first real opponent. Luckily we have a great group and the team forum stays fun year round.
Larry: We know that it is not your 1st stint in USAPL, how does it feel to be back again in this league?
Pierre:A lot better than the first time we were here. In season 8 we made the playoffs but if felt dirty because of the strong i slam. That was easily the most frustrating season in the game. Then in season 9 I got fed up with some glitches and basically took the season off and raised cash which was well needed.
Larry: Now, lets go back in time, what is the history of your team?
Pierre: We started in BBB#6 East which was a hell of a conference. A lot of good teams originated there but I think we may be the last one remaining at high levels. The Flying Elvis', NC Nudists, Dallas Longhorns and some other very good teams came from that league. We moved our way up a league just about ever season but continued to build for the future along the way. A lot of people think we are a slow build team but we are not even though we did use a lot of slow build tactics along the way. Season 7 we really started to round our builds out and that season I felt we could play with anyone in the game. We had a nice when over Dryden, played close with the Krazy Monkeys and really felt good about the team. This is the first season where I feel like we can play with any team in the game. I'm not saying we are the best because we are not, just that for the first time since season 7 we can go toe to toe with any team out there.
Larry: Right now, who was for you the most valuable guy on your team last season?
Pierre: That is nearly impossible to answer since everyone plays such a huge part in what we do. Leon Lett is hands down the best NT in the game. I know others will mention guys like Peoples Elbow and a few other great DTs. Unlike those other greats Leon gets insane production from the NT spot which is pretty much unheard of. I feel like our top 4 corners are as good as any corners in the game and every player on the defense has an amazing build. We don't have a Jimmy Johnson or Ken Cote at DE but we have 4 guys that can all get to the QB at any time and they all do it enough to give us a hell of a pass rush. Our LBs are all well built but are kind of cheated since they are stuck behind our defensive line and in front of our secondary. They just don't get the plays the should. I love our safeties but if I had to mention the other really big piece of our defense it would be Taxi Driver at FS. He is a game changer and a player that will get a lot of recognition before all is said and done.
On offense we have a very good offensive line, our QBs are both extremely well built and we have a blocking FB that can crush people. Our WR core from top to bottom is very good and any one of them can make a big play. All in all Barry D' is a fantastic WR that just does amazing things. He has some games where he isn't very impressive then all the sudden he'll show up with 300 yard game. He is an impact player. Ironhead doesn't get much recognition but is a damn good power back. Then of course how could I mention the offense without mentioning the Tick. I know you asked for one guy but I can't give you one guy on a roster of 55.
Larry; How do you approach this 11th season in GLB?
Pierre: I approached this offseason completely different than seasons past. I used to look for the players with the best builds. This season I tried to identify players that have good hidden attributes. I cut some of the best built players I've seen in the entire game this season. Oldarmy's level 69 WR had a beautiful build but he sucked for the longest time. King Ash was our elusive back before the Tick and he had an amazing build but released him in favor of The Tick. At WR we brought in some very well built players that have been productive in the pro leagues. I used to not care about production and believed that it was just the system but now I know better and really took everything in to consideration. Short version: Traded lolbars for lolxfactor.
Larry; Time for a quick prediction: Who has the most chances to win the USAPL crown this season?
Pierre: Shit, it is anybody's race. Lincoln, WW, OFG, Gurupies and some others all have a great shot. I'd be lying if I didn't think we were ready to compete but we'll have to prove it before I can back up my thoughts.
Larry: Well, it is time folks, thanks Pierre for coming here, it was a pleasure having you as our guest and good luck for the season to come!
Pierre:Thanks Larry, enjoyed it and can't wait to get the season rolling.
