I'm building two different DE's, one will be heavy str. and the other heavy agility. What utility does the strength DE have in the future? Is he purely for run-stopping or does he get a good amount sacks as well? I can foresee him not being a sack machine, but getting a lot of TFL's and an occasional sack (similar to DT). Also, what SA's are worth investing in? Will FS/TV/SB not be as useful because of a str DE's lower agility?

High STR containment d.e's are cool, but hardly anyone is building them. If you build one, just wait for the depth charts to add D.E.1 and you will be set. EVERYONE and their grandma's will be looking for high str containment d.e's for run plays. If you go high str and agility, then sacrifice a little speed you will still get sacks. Look something like 100/70/90. You would be great in the run game and still get a few hurries and sacks here and their. I know people don't think hurries work to well, but I have seen a lot of int's off hurries. For a containment D.E I wouldn't worry about t.v. You can still use shed blocks first step and change direction. You might even want to Raise monster hit. If you could build a strong containment d.e. with high str and monster hit, you would definitely be an asset to a smart D.C. JMO

Great information. I am realizing that the utility of a player depends on the team's system. I think the strength DE can be a very good utility player, especially in a 3-4 system with pass rushing LB's on the outside. Your idea of having him as a hard hitter is a very intriguing concept. Maybe it's worth a try. Even if he misses the tackle, he will slow down the ball carrier enough to give a chance for the LB's to make the tackle.

I agree. 100/80/80 would work well. I would say it might be worth trying TV with 70/90 or 80/80, since it gives a speed boost around/through the blocker sometimes. I wouldn't worry so much about change direction with agility equal to or higher than speed, same with first step for the most part. With good shed blocks you will disrupt both pass and run plays. Tackles can't really manage to have >100 strength and 80 agility while still having enough blocking to keep a good strong DE out of the play.
