No changes to the rankings system, but with me missing a week and the playoff upon us, I’m changing the write-up a little. Little more emphasis on the upcoming match-ups.

Contenders

#1 – Farkistan Squirrels (16-0, Rank 103.77)

The only team to survive the regular season undefeated, Farkistan is also the only team to break the 100-point plateau in the rankings. Fark has home field advantage for the playoffs and opens up with Texas Two Step. A team they defeated 37-7 just a few games back. Did Texas find the magic formula for scoring on Fark at the end of their last game, or does Fark just have too much firepower for it to matter.

#2 – Gary Gangstaz (15-1, Rank 94.88)

Still # 2 in the rankings, Gary is looking up at Niagara in the official standings. As a result they face a tough Appalachian Lycans team that they defeated 20-0 way back in week 5. Has Appalachian improved enough to close the gap?

#3 – Niagara Rapids (15-1, Rank 93.81)

Niagara won their last 13 games to secure home field advantage, and now faces an Armageddon squad in the 1st round that they squeaked out a 13-6 win against back in week 8.

#4 - Austin Breakers (13-3, 77.09)

Austin B. looks dominant heading into the post season with solid wins over the Ducks, Paraplegics and Outlaws to close out the season. However the rankings like them better than the official standings, and they face The Oakland Nation in a round one rematch of one of their 3 losses on the year.

#5 – Austin Alcoholics (13-3, 75.25)

Austin A. stumbles into the playoffs as the 2 seed coming off a surprising loss to the Charlotte Panthers (A non-playoff team). Were the Alcoholics resting starters for the playoffs, or will this misstep prove costly due to the confidence hit. They face an up and down Duck’s squad that looked dominant early in the year, but that Austin dispatched 16-9 in week 11.

#6 – LA Chupacabras (12-4, 69.49)

LA looks to be getting hot again just in time for the playoffs coming of 3 straight victories included 2 blowouts to cap off the season. They face off against a Vikings squad that handed them on of their losses in a week 12 nail biter 19-13.

#7 – Louisville Baby Kittens (12-4, 68.52)

The Kittens may have earned the 3 seed in the East, but they face a Texas squad that handed them their most embarrassing loss of the season (41-13) just 2 weeks ago. The Kittens must prove that loss was just a fluke if they hope to advance in the playoffs.

#8 – The State of Texas Domination (11-5, 66.93)

One of the hardest teams to get a read on in all of BBB#7, Texas looked to have wrapped up home field with a dominating performance vs. The Baby Kittens, but then stumbled against a top Vikings squad to loose out on the home field tie breakers. They face off against the Kittens again this week, looking to repeat the dominant performance of 2-weeks ago.

#9 – Oakland Nation (11-5, 65.21)

Oakland rode its #2 overall (#1 in the 2nd half of the season) defense to a number 6 seed in the playoffs. The Nation must continue its defensive domination if they hope to repeat their week 10 upset of the Breakers in their 1st round match-up.

#10 – Anchorage Vikings (11-5, 64.38)

After some early struggles, the Vikings developed into one of the top teams in BBB#7 the 2nd half of the season, earning themselves a 5th seed and a rematch with a LA squad that they defeated 19-13 in week 12.

#11 – Atlanta Purple Penguins (11-5, Rank 61.35)

An early season favorite, the Penguins have regained some momentum coming into the playoffs with 3 straight victories. As the 4 seed they host the Freedom Warriors in a rematch of their week 3 matchup which they won 16-9.

#12 – Lincoln Freedom Warriors (11-5, 59.64)

An early season loss to the Purple Penguins has the Warriors headed to Atlanta with vengeance on their mind. After a red hot middle third of the season, Lincoln has fallen back to the pack, and must regain that swagger that had them in the top 5 earlier in the year.

#13 – Appalachian Lycans (10-6, 55.13)

A tough loss to Oakland put the Lyncans in the #7 spot out east going into the playoffs. Where they match-up against the #2 ranked Gary Gangstaz. A week 5 match-up saw Gary shut out the Lycans, who must now show how much their offense has improved if they hope to advance.

#14 – Texas Two Step (9-7, 48.03)

Nine wins was enough to get Texas into the playoffs, but it wasn’t enough to avoid the #8 seed and a match-up with the #1 ranked Squirrels. Texas must look to build on their late game success vs. Farkistan if they have any hope of pulling off what would be the biggest round 1 upset.

#15 – Atlanta Ducks (9-7, 42.87)

Early season dominance gave way to a 5 game losing streak starting in week 7. Atlanta managed to go 1 game over 500 in their last 5 games to secure a playoff spot, but now must face an Alcoholics squad that defeated them 16-9 in week 11.

#16 – Houston Armageddon (8-8, 41.02)

The only team without a winning record to sneak into the playoffs, Houston faces a dominant Niagara Rapids squad in round 1. They kept it close last time out against Niagara only losing by 7, they must make up that gap to shock the east and move on.

Relegated to meaningless scrimmages

#17 - Saginaw Spirit
#18 - Killer Rabbits
#19 - Charlotte Panthers
#20 - Texas Tarheels
#21 - Washington State Whodat's
#22 - Malibu Mels
#23 - Red Bank Thundercats
#24 - Baton Rouge Bayou Bengals
#25 - Visalia Paraplegics
#26 - Jax Beach Juggernauts
#27 - Las Vegas Outlaws
#28 - Big Money Dynasty
#29 - DFL Gods
#30 - South Bend ShamRockers
#31 - San Diego Aztecs
#32 - Richmond Empire

Thats the end of the power rankings for this season, from here on out the playoffs will tell us more than the rankings ever could. Look for them to return somewhere around week 6-8 of next season (assuming Oakland doesn't run the table).

Thanks, but I'm thinking we are going to need a little more from our offense this time around, its a bit much to ask of our D to hold you to a FG 2 games in a row, you are stacked all over.

Yeah good game, close in all aspects. Well fought in to OT. Nice rivalry we have going there.

I don't recall Lincoln ever being in the top 5 this year, even in the midst of our 7 game winning streak...

Looks like I had a brain fart and mixed up your info with The State of Texas when doing the write-up, your tabs are right next to each other in the spreadsheet.

Reading these was really a lot of fun over the course of the season. Thanks, Brick!

My #11 Purple Penguins face the #12 Lincoln Freedom Warriors in a little over an hour in the most tightly contested playoff matchup in the league. Less than 2 rating points separate these two Eastern powers who have equivalent records. Atlanta won an early season matchup with the Warriors, but that was Week 3 and everything is different now--much more at stake, much more experienced players, much more savvy coaches, AND the Penguin now has a bazooka!

Personally, I think it's gonna be a close one, but the bazooka gives the Penguin the edge!

PURPLE PENGUIN POWER!!!!

The only thing purple about the penguins after the game will be the bruises that the Freedom Warriors give you guys...

Closed the gap, but just to 5 this time. On behalf of Armageddon, good game, good luck in the rest of the Playoffs, and who's that Joe Goodberry again?
