i always throw some thing together for the playoff race in every league im in so im going to do it this time around. hope you enjoy it....
So here we are, week 10 of the season and playoff scenarios are beginning to form. Monmouth and Green Bay are pulling a Hitler and blitzkrieg-ing their respective conferences. After losing their traditional season opener to a strong shockers team, Monmouth have lit up every team they have come up against. Monmouth obviously have a vendetta about last seasons crushing loss in the championship game to the gamblers and have come out this season with a point to prove.
Watching Monmouth play dot-ball is a pleasure, but it reminds me of the film monty python and the holy grail when the two heads are arguing about which one is going to kill sir robin (see link at bottom of article). They have the ultimate two pronged attack at QB and at RB, and their 5th overall offense which is balanced makes it tough for teams to find a weakness to exploit.
The only obvious problem for them is coverage, which they have been unable to stop effectively this season. will it be their achilles heel in the playoffs? we will have to wait to find out. A game against the overmatched freebirds is just a prelude to an important matchup with the vikings.
Green Bay remain the only undefeated team in the league, boasting the 3rd overall defense and first against the pass. Dont get me wrong, this team can play offense too, with the best offense in the league. their turnover ratio is ridiculous and look no further than defensive MVP front runner Pipi long stocking. This girl can stuff the middle better than anyone in the game, with 30 forced fumbles, 13 sacks in 10 games. Add to that one interception and you see how ridiculously good this animal is.
right now nobody can stop these guys and GIRL and i honestly believe that with this defense they will roll through the regular season and possibly the playoffs. Their next game is against TSEs lions, another gimme in my opinion. their final three games will decide home field advantage, which is almost wrapped up, and the most intriguing game on their schedule for me is the naturals, who have been on fire as of late.
Speaking of the naturals, this newcomer has exceeded many peoples expectations this season, beating some damn good teams in nailbiters and even blowing out alpine last week. Wow. these guys have the best passing offense in the league at the moment, and having two quarterbacks that could start for other teams is a good start. their final stretch of games are make or break for these guys, and look no other than their matchup this week against the gamblers.
this game is my game of the week:
Las Vegas Gamblers VS Northwest Arkansas Naturals:
Northwest Arkansas are by no means guaranteed a playoff spot, with indianapolis, official and the red dots breathing down their necks, so they need a win here if they want to be considered among the elite. Las Vegas currently sit at 3rd in the eastern conference, and after a grueling starting schedule followed by a fantastic winning streak they are high on confidence. Las Vegas' bend but not break defense is the KEY OF THE GAME here.
If they can gamble enough to come up with some turnovers to prevent the naturals from gathering steam in the passing game then the gamblers will pull out this victory. My prediction is the gamblers do just that and win a nailbiter, probably winning by less than a touchdown.
Other intriguing games this week include:
Minnesota Marauders VS Lincoln Navigators:
Lincoln may be all but out of the playoff race this season, but dont count these guys out as they can still play spoiler this season. Their middle of the pack team is extremely inconsistent this season, but has played a couple of good teams close during the season. Minnesota is my sleeper pick for the title. i love what these guys can do on both sides of the ball. They run it hard and give their offense short fields to work with, which is key this season and the KEY OF THE GAME. I dont see these guys failing in this game, as they look to gather momentum going into the stretch run. my prediction is the marauders will win by a touchdown.
Compton VS Hedgehogs:
this is another great game, which could have playoff implications. Compton are my fastest rising team and if they can pull out a win here, they can consider themselves elite in my mind. the hedgehogs started the season on fire but have cooled as of late, with a shocking loss to the freebirds last week. They just havent seemed the same team since they got a new arsehole torn by MEM a couple of games ago. their QB is one of the best in the league at the moment, probably the best, and i see him being the KEY OF THE GAME here. comptons pass protecting is so poor, that i dont see them containing the second best passing game in the league. hedgehogs win by a touchdown and a bit.
My fastest rising teams:
MEM (since the end of the shockers game they are on a 9 game winning streak)
Compton (havent lost in 7 games, a team to watch going towards the playoffs)
San Diego (on a four game winning streak, after losing to HHW by a missed 19 yard FG!-can hang with anyone in the league on any given day)
HHW (their games against top teams in the west have been nailbiting and any game with them is exciting stuff, also on a three game winning streak)
My fastest fading teams:
Texas roughnecks (they are sitting in eight place, but the last four games of the season are brutal, but i guess parma have the same teams to face so they should lock up the eight spot, 7th at best)
Chicago Hedgehogs (they havent been the sams since drago punched them, losing a game recently and barring a failed 4th down attempt on a pass to the tick and a failed 4th down attempt against the 3-7 spartans would have been 6-4 and out of the home playoff game picture)
see you next week for some more input on the playoff race as the season reaches its final conclusion.
two headed monster: its actually three headed, but you get the gist!
