I enjoyed this game last season more than any other season I've been here, and I've been here since the beginning. I found that I was able to come up with game plans on the defensive side that helped improve two defenses significantly. This season is almost the exact opposite of last year, and I think it's mainly due to the VAs.

I will have my guys in position to make the play, only to watch them flash, shrivel up, "fall down go boom", whatever you want to call it, over and over and over. I can understand how a CB may not be able to stop a HB with a full head of steam, but there's no reason that 6'4" 250lb LBs and larger safeties shouldn't be able to do SOMETHING when a runner gets loose. I'll have three or four guys with a great angle, but all three will go down like dominos.

I'm assuming this is because of those VA things, but what can I do on defense to counteract this?? Do I need to tell my players to increase confidence? Strength? Vision? What??

Please help, as this is becoming very frustrating.

lol, that's bullshit man....I was really glad to see that if someone used their brain, they could devise a scheme that would take a good D and make it better. So now that ability is just completely gone away? I WANT IT BACK DAMMIT!!! lol

Honestly, you have to play according to the players you have... but that's a pain and is hard and MUCH easier said than done.

But, if you actually have two guys in position and they're not making the play, as you say, then it sounds like the most reasonable problem is tackling and/or vision, for the most part... I guess. But that's terrible speculation on my end and I kinda hate to do that most times.

I would say it all starts with speed and agility and vision on defense followed by a good dose of tackling. What levels are these guys your talking about? We now know confidence get's hit hard in-game so more of that might help but if their speed, agility and vision aren't good enough those VA thingy's will take over.

I tell you from experience of being a DC and having a few defensive players that it's all about the build. You can put your guys in place to make a play but if their build isn't good enough, they just wont follow through.

PM me if you need any advice.

I agree....these VAs suck!

Check this out....last year this play is stopped with no problem. This year it kills us:

Here's another one from today's game:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=476257&pbp_id=9064731

It doesn't matter whether I have guys in position to make a play or not when this kind of crap goes down. Very frustrating.

Looks like your team has very low vision. I'd guess not many players are even at 60. They're falling for headfakes every time. More vision, Super Vision AEs, and avoid fake %.

There's really no reason not to have 60+ vision and agility, with decent speed

Im a DC in the same confrence as you, you picked replays with 2 of the top 3 elusive backs in our confrence, sometimes you just gotta accept that really good players will make really good plays.

i.e - heres hose head taking the handoff AND making the DT fall down with a fake at the same time

As a D-Co, your job is in bold. If you've done that, then you've done your job. If your players don't have enough skill to complete the play, then that's on them.
