According to Bort it is for, "if you do not want him to automatically shift over to cover his man." Does that mean if the player does NOT use "w/o move" that the dot will automatically line up next to the player the DC selected at the beginning of the play? In short, it doesn't matter where the dot is on the field, if he is manned with "a move," he will teleport next to who he's supposed to man up with?

I want the player to start the play where is, but not just stand their like a complete idiot while the play is in motion. I want him to adjust to the player he is manned up with while the play progresses. I don't want him to line up with his manned target. I assume I select "w/o move" then?

I'm a complete newb with the defensive A.I.

Holy crap that description confused me

Basically, with normal man coverage, if the player is outside of the box, he will line up over his man target. If you assign CB1 to WR2, but don't move him, he will line up across from WR2. However, if you assign the MLB to WR2, since he is in the box, he will still line up where he is position in the DPC.

Using the "w/o move" coverage, if you assign CB1 to WR2, he will stay on the weak side of the field across from WR1, while trying to cover the WR2 on the other side of the field.

And I'm sure you will ask what is actually the box...and that is kind of cloudy. It goes out to where the OLB's line up in a 3-4, and I think I read that it has infinite depth, not entirely sure about that though.

w/o move he will still cover the man you assign. His starting position will be forced to the point you move it in the D-Play creator.
Normal, he will adjust his starting position some to cover his man assignments, but he may not line up directly over his assignment (Like a LB on a WR).

It's basically the same thing Deathblade said.

Read through this thread...

I asked basically the same thing of Bort there. The Cliffs Notes response is that they won't automatically move to be over top of the man they are covering unless they are outside of the box. What does this mean? The LBs will never be automatically moved but any secondary player put in man on someone in the backfield would be. Bort claimed that LBs put out wide enough could be considered to be outside the box and thus auto-moved but testing shows this to not be the case.

Dumb question for you Deathblade. I haven't tried it, but lets say outside of the box. You assign CB2 to WR1 since you can't move him over there. Will he automatically be lined up on the side when the actual play fires ?

Yep.

I've been doing it fairly often.
Example: http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=474920&pbp_id=7773066

Edit: It is CB1 on WR2, but same concept.

I love using cb4 on the hb in shotgun, and lining up with a move when i think they might run, and lining up without move when i think its a screen or strong flood... works great

Why do we still have different rules for players inside the box when we have "Cover Man w/o Move"?

My understanding was that so the current and default behavior would not be modifed, meaning everyone wasn't going to have to go update their custom plays to get the same behavior that they had before. At one point someone suggested a 3rd option that would force a man to move every time, eliminating the need for the default man coverage option, but again, I believe Bort's worried about the backwards compatibility for everyone. Maybe it could be done as an offseason change so everyone would have time to update to the new options.
