So I have a FB that is primarily used for Leadblocking and thats it. He has been a beast in every season up until now.. and now he gets knocked down a lot and he isn't getting much push.

The philosophy was Agility to accelerate to the line, strength to push them back or pancake them and speed to stay in front. I also wanted a low vision to keep him running forward (not be distracted by "threat"). And blocking wasn't important as he would pancake everyone in his path. So what has changed?

Do we now need blocking to keep from getting knocked down? It used to be if I hit someone and didn't pancake them, I would engage and push them back.. now after 1 second I fall down.

What role if any does vision now play in leadblocking?

STR for the defense has become a priority this season following the powerback. So this could be why you are not seeing as many pancakes. If you are engaging and then falling, then you are being reverse pancaked when the defender breaks your block. It really depends on who it is that is knocking you on your ass. If it's D-Line then blocking or agility (dependant on opposing builds BLK being more of a catch all) would help you remain engaged and reduce the reverse pancakes. If it's LBs/Safeties you could do either STR or BLK/AGI with STR being the wild card in hoping you are able to successfully pancake the player, AGI being as consistant as BLK in this case.

Vision has it's role on picking up threats, but doesn't effect your ability to sustain the block afaik.

Could be related to agility. If you're falling when blocks are broken, it may not necessarily be a reverse pancake. Could be lost balance and falling down. Depends what direction the player breaking the block moves.

Well I have never put anything into blocking as it was never an issue in the past. This issue popped up with heavyweight so I am going to assume its a low blocking problem. With low blocking the FB doesnt stay engaged very long, so where he used to re-engage with high agility, now he is falling down due to heavyweight.

My theory on Vision has always been that I wanted low vision as I didnt want my FB to think.. I just wanted him to hit the hole and blow up whoever was there. It has always works exactly like that.. I'm wondering though, with all the vision adjustments, other then detecting threat (which really isn't all that important as a leadblocker) is vision modifying the roll to engage? It used to be an agility check.. but I'm starting to wonder if Bort threw in vision as well. I think I will let this go for now while I work my blocking up.. but its a good discussion to have.

The big fix I think is blocking probably needs to be softcapped for Leadblockers so you dont get reverse pancaked.. /sigh

Yeah, such a tragedy, that a blocker needs to know how to block.
