Can someone explain to me why this happens: http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=550801&pbp_id=2870156

Basically, my CB decides to run away from the WR when the ball is thrown. The CB was on close/semi-aggressive. He has vision over the 3rd cap with 6 SV and agility at 80. I had never seen him do this prior to this season, and am a little concerned it's a result of Ball Hawk.

Any thoughts on how to stop that from happening?

a push off???? i have no idea... maybe increased strength??

or your CB has poor vision and wasn't looking in at the QB??

I don't think it's poor vision (it's over 68 w/6 SV), but I really have no clue what else it could be.

I'm not sure if there are pushoffs in the game or not. How is your agility/change direction looking? My CB does that too and my agility is pretty good along with CD. Also do you remember what your coverage settings were for that game?

He was in close/semi. He doesn't have points in CD, though his agility is 80+. I don't think it's a CD issue, though, b/c it's not like he even tried to make a move on the WR.

maybe he thought the ball was gonna fly over the WRs head and he was goin for an int behind him....guess he guessed wrongly

it was fail on either vis or agi, you have good agi and good vis, but neither even at 100 of each would "guarantee" you shutdown your receiver on every play and react perfectly to everything thrown your way. I'd just chalk it up to a bad play

Close, more likely the WR had higher jumping than the CB and was able to go up for the catch, while the CB who couldn't jump that high was heading to a place further downfield where he could reach the ball.

What is the CB's jumping?

I do chalk it up to a bad play (though one I hadn't seen before), though it did happen (sort of) again in another scrimmage: http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=550799&pbp_id=1160256 That play he starts overrunning the WR right before the ball is thrown.

As Dravz said, it does look like, in both plays, that he is going to where he thinks the ball is going to land rather than trying to contest it. I'm just not sure why that is.

WR did something like a outīn up route fake and the QB probably pumpfaked. CB fell for the fake and got toasted - at least thats what I think

thats exactly what I said but worded differently...

It's definitely possible, though there aren't that many WRs with jumping substantially higher than 50 so it's odd that it happened in two different games in a row after never happening before.

This is my guess. The CB calculated the point at which he could get to the ball, but the WR was able to get to the high throw.
