Looking at the new VAs as a FS, I'm thinking the MANDATORY setup almost should be...

Zone Specialist (+1% to Speed, Agility, Vision when in Zone)
Ball Hawk (+1% to Speed, Agility, Vision after seeing a pass released)
Long Reach (2nd chance to deflect a pass)

Agree? Disagree?

I personally don't think that the attribute VAs are worth it anymore in comparison to these as a FS.

Ball Hawk is amazing now. Zone spec always was. I dunno about LR. I might go 3rddownstopper instead.

Long Reach - 2nd chance to deflect a pass at 3% per/level.
Maxed - 45% chance to reroll a failed deflected pass check.

For example, if a FS has a 25% chance to deflect a pass, with this ability, he would have a .25 + .45*.25 = .3625 or 36.25% chance.

3rd Down Stopper - +3% chance to deflect a pass on 3rd and 4th down.
Maxed - +45% chance to deflect a pass on 3rd and 4th down.

For example, a FS has a 25% chance to deflect a pass, with this ability, he would have a .25*1.45 = 36.25% chance ONLY on 3rd and 4th down.

If the percentages were raised to 40%:
LR - .4 + .45*.4 = .58 or 58%
3rd - .4 * 1.45 = .58 or 58% ONLY on 3rd/4th Down.

If I am doing this math correctly, there is ZERO reason to ever take 3rd Down Stopper.

I would say for SS the order goes as following:

1. Ball Hawk
2. Jackhammer
3. Long Reach
4. Football Genius

Everything else is a very, very distant second, unless you have specific problems/desires regarding tackling, in which case Sure Tackler and Power Tackler are both viable.

Quick and Track Star have both been nerfed into Oblivion, and Third Down Stopper is (IMO) nowhere near as good as the four above. Honestly, even Football Genius is of doubtful usefulness now.

I'd still put Zone Specialist at #1 for FS, then you add Ball Hawk on top of that and you're flying around the field.

Yeah, I just put 30 into ZS + BH, and now I'm not sure what to do with the rest. My candidates are: Sure Tackler (new and improved) and 3rd Down Stopper. I would almost consider Football Genius, which at least still gives + .5%. I saw someone mention Long reach, but one of the problems with the old Sure Tackler was that HB's could roll a break tackle number so high it would be impossible for a defender to tackle them. I wonder if something similar might happen with passes and Long Reach. Did anybody who used it last season see an increase in PDs? How much?

Any other suggestions?

I can't imagine why anyone is gonna use the attribute VAs now. I was thinking of starting with Power Tackler since my guy is kind of a coverage/run support hybrid and I don't quite qualify for Ball Hawk yet. >< Is there any evidence that Power Tackler actually does anything? Otherwise I'll go Long Reach.

Power Tackler went from 2% to 3% making it about 10% better than what it was (upgrades it from suck, to ok), although you now have to be on anything besides wrap up so some teams might not want their safeties using it. I really wouldn't use it in combination with Jackhammer since jackhammer would take away some of your chances to force fumbles on receivers who are the biggest target to for their low carrying.

My SS is going Jackhammer, BallHawk, Helmet Crash
my FS is going BallHawk, Sure Tackler, Power Tackler (Yes, I know zone specialist is the shit, go have fun with it). The Sure Tackler will help him tackle the Bruiser (8 yards booo)/YAC Attack and Slippery WRs and Power Tackler will hit them where their weakest, carrying!

Ball Hawk + Zone Specialist would make for quite a scary FS (at least mine is in zone most every time) on passing plays. With attribute VAs down and word on the street that passing is back in season 9 sim, they seem like a pretty great combo.

Combine those two with either jackhammer or long reach and your FS should be getting a ton of PDs.

Ok, for a FS ...

Max out Zone Specialist
Max out Ball Hawk

Then what?

I'm thinking max out Jackhammer if you've got strength too ...

For a FS, I think BH will be huge. Since they are often in a zone, BH will really let them throw on the jets to get to the intended receiver.
