I understand strength isn't the most important attribute for CBs, I get it. But what is with players who don't even touch strength? I ask all my players to at least softcap strength. It helps bring down those fat-ass powerbacks. But I'm not even saying you have to spend SPs on it. Just train it up to something semi-decent. There is no reason a 50+ defensive player should not have at least 40 strength. It's inexcusable.

I beg to differ. I'd rather have a CB be able to shut down the opposing team's WRs than bring down their powerbacks. That's what LBs are for.

He has a good point, but str is more than just one dimensional for a corner.

a CBs job is not to tackle PBs thats what you have LB's Safeties and a D Line for

There are at least 9 other players on the team who should be making the tackle on such a player.

A corner shouldn't even be touching strength/tackling till the latter part of his career. It is definitely something to put points into... but it is of lower importance than spd/agi/vis/jump/catch

LionsLover is a bad owner for asking his players to sacrifice a key attribute and train strength instead ... 30 ish strength is fine for any CB 50+

the other 18 SP, to get strength to 48 could be better used in confidence, stamina speed, agility, vision jumping and even catching

What? You can't have it both ways? By level 50? And, yes, catching is nearly useless.

I disagreeeee! UnderDogs has STRONG evidence catching is amazing.

But its not too much to ask to have 40 strength by level 50.

Would it be too much to ask to see this strong evidence? I think it's been referenced before in the CB forums, but I want to make sure I'm thinking about the right thing. I thought that experiment was with low-level players in low-tiered leagues.

your strength is used for other things besides tackling, for instance fighting
a WR for a catch or pushing them out of the way for a PD

I just re-read it through and through. Nothing popped out at me near the end.
On p4 http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=2217275&page=4 , I saw some posts by UD that seem to be jiving with what this conversation is talking about.

That's with mid-20 level CBs...

never seen dots push each other out of the way fighting for a catch or PD
example?

It isn't so much "pushing out of the way" as the "Jackhammer effect."

Strength is useful for corners because it can knock the ball loose, but IMO it's not nearly as important (even terms of pass defense) as it is to safeties or linebackers, as ideally when you're a CB you'll be in man coverage and the Jackhammer effect doesn't come into play particularly often.

I would rate strength above confidence and stamina for a CB, but below jumping/catching.
