Yes, but sometimes defeat can make one a stronger person. Picard got knifed by a Nausican over a dom-jot game, and if that never happened then he never would have became Captain.
Speaking of Star Trek - I really love J.J. Abrams (Lost is one of my favorite shows ever) - I'm not a big Trek fan but I'll definitely be checking out the movie when it comes out.
