It seems very hard to break a tackle after catching a pass when a defender is covering very tight.
For example in real life when a WR has to jump to get a ball he gets tackled even before he hits the turf.
Also when the route dictates that the WR come to a complete stop when making a catch he gets pummeled.

What combination of skills and abilities will help a WR break loose?

strength for physcially breaking tackles, catching/jumping to decrease bobble time, speed/agi to get away after catch

Would "first step" help?

of course, but that would be after getting all core stats up to great performing levels. This would also apply to quick cut

Not really. Agility or catching I assume would be most beneficial.

The best option is "Fart Fake"

The biggest problem with breaking tackles is the fact you have to come to a complete stop on most catches. Running someone over or juking them isn't easy to do from a standstill. Supposedly that will be fixed for next season, but hopefully you've learned by now not to get your hopes up.

Hmm I have not read anything about jumping decreasing the bobble effect. From personal experience I have seen carrying decrease it, but never noticed if jumping did.

i would assume that it does since it is included in the catch roll, so i have heard

I don't think jumping has a whole lot to do with the actual act of catching, it just gets you into position to make the catch. If you're having bobble problems it's most likely either catching or carrying.

but vision is supposed to allow you to adjust to the ball better in flight and not have to stop to catch it, so that could help in YAC. same with catching I think. both more so than jumping.

speed and agility would help with the fake SAs on the speed tree to avoid tackles, and strength and carrying could help to break with a more possession build.

Well, on catches where you have to jump, yes. But if you have to jump for a catch, chances are you aren't going to get a bunch of YAC on it anyways.

Being faster and more agile will always help... I'd look into getting more catching (more likely to catch a ball in stride), more vision, and maybe some more carrying. TBH I wouldn't worry a ton about it until next season anyways, though, since it seems like there'll be a bunch of passing buffs going live then.

it won't work if your competition is equal or greater at the higher levels. secondaries are too agile and their vision is high as hell too

HF spin and juke become dead SPs
