when is the best situation to use it? If you just want to throw it deep a lot? OR when your QB is dumping it off to much instead of hitting the wide open guy down field?

Whats the difference between setting more long passes in the tactics and setting the QB to favor long passes?

Is there any negatives involved with favoring the long passes?

Long passes in tactics would be plays with nothing but long routes (some short)

Setting it for the QB would just mean that he favors th elong routes of any pass play, even if it's short, medium route

It all depends on your build, if your QB has favorable strength, then set it to long, if he doesnt, your probably better of short passes. My QB is about 66 in strength and i favor long passes. He is currently about 50% on fade routes, and i think my strength needs to be about 75.

Favor long just gives a bonus to the "score" of players on a deeper route. There is a calculation for each receiver and that determines where the QB will throw the ball.

I have no idea what the calculation, but for an example, let's say Receiver Long scores a .35 and Receiver Short scores a .55, where the higher score is where the QB throws the ball. Then, let's say "favor long passes" gives a bonus of .25. With favor long passes turned on, the QB throws to receiver Long and with it turned off it throws it to Receiver Short.

As OC for our team, I scout the opposition first and if I see some long routes downfield that I think I can exploit their defense on, I tell the QB's to favor long passes (i.e. if they're blitzing the safties a lot or playing a lot of Cover 1/Cover 0). If I see the other team playing a lot of Cover 2 type defense, where the safeties tend to hang back in coverage, then I don't have the QB's favor long, instead hoping that they just find the first open man and hit him.
