Hey guys, I was just wondering what your thoughts are on the closing speed SA for a high level FS? The description sounds pretty cool and highly useful, but I was wondering what other peeps with safeties think of it?

Does it really give a boost to speed/acceleration basically anywhere on the field when going after the ball carrier? Is it noticable?

Any comments are much appreciated.

I have 3 into Closing Speed on my Lv 45 SS and have seen it activate, the boost is definitely noticeable -- though mainly because of the boost to starting from a dead stop to top speed!

Sorry that I don't have a chance to look through some replays for an example. >.<

Wish it wasn't so buried on the SA chart. I need to find this replay where i chased down a guy who probably had more speed based on other replays. It was weird. You can see my dot gaining on his in a really awkward way. I'm guessing it had to be closing speed. I only have like 3 in it because i don't feel like upping stuff like monster hit.

I like where its placed on the SS coverage SA tree, since almost everything in the tree it is helpful. =)

Kinda sucks that its on the FS hard hitter SA tree though

Does it help on Special Teams?

I just got my closing speed up to 4 but had to waist a point or two getting monster hit up to 2. Whatever. I'm glad i got 2 more in closing speed though.

at least it sounds like monster hit might be a bit more useful this season since there will be more FFs

Theoretically the problem with closing speed is it specifically mentions the ball carrier. So it's a good SA for closing the gap to get to a RB on the outside, or to catch a WR that might have been outside your responsibility.

In the first situation, you'd hope you don't have to make the tackle, and in the second, the damage has been inflicted. At double SP, you might not want to invest too heavily in this before others.

I agree my S.S. doesn't have closing speed. I don't feel like he has ever needed it either. I guess closing speed could make up for a bad build, but if you build right, you should always be around the ball enough for closing speed not to matter much. imo.

I 6 pts in closing speed. My build has 3 Fumble recoveries this season and I have returned 2 of them for long TD's. I believe closing speed has helped this because my guy is always around the ball. The fumble recoveries have been on running plays and my safety zips to the ball. Just my observation...

I'll second that, my FS has a 9 in Closing Speed and is reasonably fast, he gets around the plays all the time. He has recovered a few fumbles that my Big Hit SS caused. They seem to work well as a combo, as if the SS misses the hit the FS is normally right their to clean up the scraps
