which one would prove more useful/relevant?

Ball Hawk.
Seriously, I'd rank them like this:
60+ catching Soft Hands
Ball Hawk
-60 catching Soft Hands
Sure Hands
At the end of the day it really depends on your situation. If you aren't getting tipped balls, Ball Hawk is useless. If your catching sucks, soft hands won't boost anything. If you don't get thrown to 5+ times a game, sure hands isn't going to be useful since it is a percentage chance on top of a percentage chance on top of a percentage chance to work.

I'm wondering the same thing. i went with sure hands first but i'm not sure that's the best one. the big question seems to be whether sure hands works with deflections, not just actual drops. since you can catch a deflected pass, that means there is a failed catch check for deflections and you should get a chance for a second catch roll. but bort apparently hasn't answered that specifically. Mob alludes to the notion that since soft hands is a % increase to your base ability, it is more valuable the more you have in catching.
here's more discussion, food for thought...

I heard that sure hands only works when your reciever drops the ball. This means it activates on all drops, but also on some deflections. Where the defender touched the ball and the reciever dropped it, it goes down as a PD on the pbp - but the WR did drop it, so sure hands would kick in.

that makes sense to me, and I hope it is that way.
and actually, since the receiver has a chance to catch the ball on deflections, it seems like there has to be a catch pass check on every deflection, even if the receiver doesn't technically drop it. If it's been deflected completely out of his reach then he's going to fail no matter what. but if he has any chance to make the catch one time, he should get a second chance if sure hands activates.
another question I have is whether it gives a second chance for your catching-related SAs to activate. Sticky Hands, Jumping Catch, Diving Catch and One-Handed Catch seem like they would have to trigger (or have a chance to trigger) during the catch pass check, so it seems like you would have a second chance for each of them to work if you got a second catch pass check.

I would say that yes, this is true as these have a chance to activate on catch attempt so a second catch attempt would likely give them another chance at triggering. If you are heavily invested in possession SAs, this might make this even better. No factual info to back this up however.

Yep, I am going with Mob-6s' theory this year. Just haven't reset my VAs yet to pump up my Sure Hands (probably to 10 to start)

Shouldn't Sure Hands work on every single good pass to your WR? I mean, he gets a catch pass check any time the ball is thrown within his radius even if it doesn't register as a "drop" and even if it is deflected, right?

some info from bort on Sure Hands:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=1684992&page=38
The way I read it sounds like it will not trigger on pass deflections.

I'm not sure if I read it that way, but it's not entirely clear.

If you can catch deflections, it means you can also drop/bobble deflections.

Yeah. If you didn't touch it it becomes an incompletion, not a drop. If you touch it but dont catch it after a deflection, that counts as a drop for the purposes of sure hands but it goes down as a PD due the deflection.
Thats how I read it.

I would agree if the post wasn't confirming Deathblades response to a question specifically about defections. In order from the thread:
BigRick70:
I have a question, sorry if it has been asked already
It's about the Sure Hands veteran ability... can it trigger when you fail to catch a pass because of a deflection?
Deathblade:
It won't help catch a pass that you never touch to begin with...
BigRick70:
okay... so help me clarify something out
when does the catch pass check gets triggered?
is it only when the ball actually touches the receiver, or is it when the ball is in the proximity of the receiver?
for example, the qb throws the football over the receiver's hand, and the game says the pass is incomplete...
would that be because of a failed catch pass check (the ball wasn't on target, very low % of successful catch) or simply because the ball wasn't on target and the catch pass check never triggered?
Deathblade:
It only works when it would say "dropped". GoodEyeClosed comment: this sounds pretty conclusive...
Plain "incomplete" passes are because it is out of reach of the WR.
Bort:
If the receiver would have dropped it (it's on target, but he bobbles it), he gets a second chance to try again and catch it.
Of course, Deathblade is indirect when he says "It won't help catch a pass that you never touch to begin with..." and neither comes right out and says "it will not trigger on a deflection". Still room for debate but, I will not be investing any vet points into sure hands.
