So far at lvl 29 I have 5 to Soccer star to get the % bonus to kicking, but what else?

I was thinking clutch would be good as it gives some "bonus" during 3rd and 4th downs, it even mentions that it works for Ks and Ps.

After that I was thinking swagger for confidence.

They just don't seem to have those non-stat good ones like they do for the other positions, for Ks.

Besides the stat % increase VAs, what else would you get for a K?

I'm doing soccer star > swagger and then either football genius or workout warrior...not sure which right now. I might consider clutch, but not really sold

Motivational Speaker. The kicker and punter are the only logical players that will equip this.

Motivational speaker does sound pretty good.

I'm thinking Clutch and Motivational speaker are the only 2 non-attribute ones that even make sense for a K.

Motivational Speaker is horrid for a kicker. Kickers put points on the board and all their VAs should be focused on that. Let the punter who rides the pine get Motivational Speaker. As they say, there can only be one.

Some people seem to be misinterpreting the motivational speaker VA. If you read it it says that only one player may activate the ability per play and you gain a 5% chance to activate per level.

So, let's throw out a number and say, when facing equal competition, there is an average of about 150 plays in a game (a rough guess and will vary widely based on tactics and completion rates). We will also assume that the teams do not overlap the punter and kicker on special teams, I'm aware some teams do but it will affect the numbers very little. In addition for this calculation I'll assume that both kicker and punter have level 5 MS and average 10 plays (or 5% if you prefer) in the game combined, evenly divided between them.
Punter only:
(.05 * 5)*(150 - 5) = 36.25 plays activated (on average) 24.2%

Punter and Kicker

(.05*5)*(150 - 5) + (.05 * 5) * (150 - 5) - (.05 * 5 * .05 * 5 * 140)= 63.75 plays activated on average - 42.5%

A difference of 18.3% activation for the total number of plays available.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Running the same numbers with level 10 MS for both players:
Punter only: 72.5 plays - 48.3% activation
Punter and Kicker: 110 plays - 73.3% activation

A difference of 25% activation rate.

So, don't just outright dismiss it. It might be low on the list for either position but eventually it would be useful for both players to get at least to level 5 before diminishing returns kick in.

I've gone for Soccer Star, Swagger and Clutch - yet to miss a FG this season.

jherndo, it works like Defense General in a 3-4, one person (that has it) gets randomly picked to attempt to activate. They don't both get rolls. Would be nice to have confirmation.

I assumed that if you had 2 motivational speakers on the bench, one gets the roll, and if he fails, the other gets a roll. The description, to me, says that they both can't activate, not that they can't both try. My interpretation would suggest that more motivational speakers are better on the team.

I could be completely wrong.

Yeah, I'm on the same page as toppshelff. The description says that only one player can activate per play, not only one player has the chance to activate. Then again it wouldn't be the first time a skill's description was misleading.

Season started shaky, but went perfect after investing in clutch.

Same with me...

I got some clutch at the end of the season and just won our playoff game for us with 6 FGs.

6/6 FGs, 5/5 40-49, 1/1 50+.

We won 18-12, no TDs scored in the game at all.

Beginning of the season I was 50/50 at best on anything over 40 due to the kicking nerf.

I heavily invested in confidence, calm nerves, and clutch throughout the season. Got confidence to 61, calm nerves to 7, and clutch I have a few (can't remember right now).

The other thing I did is with how easy FGs used to be I only had 75 kicking and 77 strength to help in KO field position.

I moved all my EQ to kicking once I saw how bad I was at long FGs this year and now sit at 58 str, 95 kicking (plus 4 kicking from VAs to be at 98).

Clutch really seemed to help in the playoff game, I will continue to invest in it next season.
